Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the Notre-Dame du Mont Carmel Chapel.

(S/E) Head south-east along the wind farm access track. This ridge path, which follows the watershed between the English Channel and Atlantic basins, runs along the route of an ancient Roman road. In the early 20th century, a railway line linking Moncontour and Collinée also followed this route.

(1) Just before the first wind turbine, take the small path on the left, follow it and continue straight on when it joins a small tarmac road. Head down to the hamlet of Saint-Mieux.

(2) At Saint-Mieux, cross the A-road (danger: busy road!). Opposite, turn left then take the first road on the right. At the junction on the outskirts of Saint-Mieux, stay on the left-hand road.

(3) 50 m past the small cross at Saint-Mieux, turn left onto a path running alongside a meadow. This path, marked in yellow, winds through the woods, then runs alongside a stream. Continue straight on along the path, then join a road.

(4) Turn left onto this road and continue to Le Vau Gautier.

(5) At the crossroads, turn left onto the road. Take care as, although this road is quiet, some vehicles drive fast. After 400 m, at the Carouge crossroads, turn right and pass in front of the Carouge Dolmen. Continue along this small road to La Guignardais.

(6) On reaching the hamlet, turn left towards the hamlet of Vallain.

(7) In the hamlet, turn left. Cross the D6 (caution: busy road) and head up the hill directly opposite towards Le Mergier.

(8) Just before the farm, take a path to the left which leads to a road

(9) Cross it, continue to the Bel Air site and return to the car park (S/E).

Apart from a superb stretch through the woods and along the fields, this walk is of little interest

An easy walk which, if the sky is clear, offers some great views.
If you’re fit and up for it, don’t hesitate to do the full walk from Trébry, where there’s a nice bar where you can have a drink at the end of the walk.

A walk with nothing to it apart from the view and the chapel at the start of the route. Lots of tarmac roads or open fields in full sun – be careful in summer! The end of the route is through woodland; it’s a shame it’s all uphill, so you don’t really get to enjoy it. The path along the stream was under construction when we were there.
One positive point is a water source at the start, by the chapel’s well.
Our rating for this walk is 3/10

-A pleasant walk, and as Mont Bel Air is the highest point in the Côtes d'Armor, the views of the surrounding countryside are superb. This walk certainly lives up to its name, as between points 1 and 2 we were lucky enough to spot a deer. Once you’ve crossed the D6, the path climbs steadily to the finish – a gentle ascent of about 2 kilometres.
-To visit the chapel of Saint Maudez, we left the route at point 4, heading straight on for 300 metres before retracing our steps.
-We enjoyed this walk as a couple in cool, generally sunny weather.
