Short walk along the Pierre Vernier Promenade and return via Ouen Toro Park.

Walk along the sea in the southern district of Nouméa, after Anse Vata. Return via the lower part of Ouen Toro Natural Park in the dry forest to avoid too much elevation gain. A very easy hike.

Description of the walk

Park in the Château Royal beach car park. If there are no spaces, you can park in the large Ouen Toro car park, just 100 metres further on, on the left.

(S/E) Follow the main road along the Promenade Roger Laroque. Arrive at the crossroads after Georges Guerlain Park.

(1) Continue along the Promenade Roger Laroque, which becomes the Promenade Pierre Vernier. Walk along the pedestrian section of the promenade, taking care to watch out for bicycles, which sometimes travel at high speed. Continue to the sailing school at the Centre des Activités Nautiques: the park entrance is on the other side of the street, a few dozen metres from the pedestrian crossing.

(2) Cross the road carefully using this crossing and then walk up to the sign indicating the park entrance and the start of the Ouen Toro fitness trail.

(3) Always follow the path on the left; the view is already very pretty and this avoids too much elevation gain. Walk along the lower part of the park , enjoying the different views along the path, and arrive at the park information sign: map.

(4) Take the Ouen Toro trail opposite, reach another viewpoint, and continue to an intersection.

(5) Continue straight ahead on the main path and follow it to the end to arrive at Route du Ouen Toro.

(6) Turn left, then cross the car park on the right to make a small circular route in the Parc de l'Ancien Fare. Continue to the viewpoint.

(7) Finish the circular route, then return to Route de Ouen Toro, turn right and follow it downhill to Promenade Roger Laroque.

(1) Keep right, then continue along the main road until you return to the Château Royal beach car park (S/E).

Enjoy the sheltered beach if you haven't already done so before your walk!
