Description of the walk

Park at the Michel Corbasson Provincial and Forest Park car park: open from 9am to 5pm.

(S/E) Once parked, take the road on the right and follow it for about 150 m: the start of the Sentier de la Vierge de Montravel is on your right. Follow this path until the next junction.

(1) Take the path on the left to reach the first viewpoint.

(2) Carry on straight ahead to reach Mont Montravel and a second viewpoint, overlooking the various districts of Nouméa, going round the telecommunications tower. Return to the first viewpoint via this route.

(2) Set off again in the opposite direction.

(1) Continue along the path which descends straight ahead towards the north. About a hundred metres further on, join a wider path which you should follow to the left to reach a three-way junction.

(3) Take the path on the right, which descends slightly, to reach a junction that isn’t necessarily very visible on the ground. This junction is just before a flight of steps made of wooden planks.

(4) Follow the path branching off to the right, which is less visible than the main path leading uphill directly opposite. Continue straight ahead, then, at the junction, turn left to reach thecar park atthe Notre-Dame du Pacifiquepark : a place offering a beautiful panoramic view, ideal for contemplation and prayer. Please respect the site.

(5) After walking around the park, turn back and follow the route you took on the way there in the opposite direction to return to the car park (S/E).

Notes

Car park open from 9am to 5pm: closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

(5) For the return journey, you can take Rue Teyssandier de Laubarède, which is very pretty, but cars drive very fast in this area and it isn’t the safest option.

It’s possible to do the circular route in the opposite direction, starting from the Notre-Dame du Pacifique park, but the car park is technically reserved for people coming to pay their respects, so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it.

White sandy beach, turquoise waters, then a track with sea views and a gentle climb to the panorama over the northern and south-eastern bays of Nouméa. The neighbourhood was a hotspot during the 2024 riots, and several burnt-out cars are still visible when crossing the neighbourhood along Avenue James Cook and also on the way back down.
