Description of the walk

Park near the town hall and the church in Archigny.

(S/E) Walk down Rue Charles Clerté and, on leaving the village, you’ll reach the junction with Avenue des Gazillières.

(1) Turn left and walk through the car park to reach the leisure park and the Étangs des Gazillières and Trainebot. Walk alongside the three ponds and, at the end, climb the steps on the left to reach the railing running alongside the D3 road.

(2) Please note: stay behind the railing on the right until you reach the three-way junction. Turn left, then a few metres further on, ignore the path on the right leading to the old dairy and continue straight ahead along a lovely tree-lined path until you reach the D2e road.

(3) Turn right and, just before the Brouard cross, leave the road and head up the path. A few metres further on, turn left into the small copse for a pleasant climb towards the meadow. Pass in front of an old orchard. Continue to the end of the path.

(4) Turn right onto a tarmac track, then turn right at the next junction and immediately left (at the cross) onto a pleasant path running alongside a hedge between woodland and meadow. You’ll come to a hedge on the left and a field on the right. Turn right in an almost 180° turn and head for the junction with a shaded path.

(5) Follow it to the left – again making a 180° turn – then pass between the hillside and the pond until you reach the road.

(6) Turn left, then immediately right onto an open, stony path. Further on, when you see an electricity pole, turn left onto a grassy, hairpin-bend path. Continue uphill along this path until you reach the D3 road (Avenue des Acadiens).

(7) Turn left, then immediately right onto a gravel track – this is the Chemin de la Croix Chardon. A few hundred metres further on, turn right onto the fairly narrow road towards La Nivoire. At the next junction, turn left onto theGR®®364, signposted in red and white. Continue to the hamlet of La Nivoire.

(8) At the end of the hamlet, turn left between two houses, leaving theGR®® on your right. Take a lovely path, pass a pond and continue to the road.
Turn right, then left at the next junction to reach the hamlet of La Billardière.

(9) Turn left onto a charming path lined with oak trees. Pass by a spring. Continue on to rejoin the Route de Trainebot, turn left onto it and reach the junction you passed on the way out.

(1) Follow the route back in the opposite direction to return to the car park near the town hall (S/E).

A pleasant walk, mostly along narrow paths and wide tracks, with very little road walking. The start of the route is a bit hilly but very accessible; part of the joy of walking is not just sticking to flat terrain.

A lovely walk through the spring blossoms, some pleasant encounters with people; the walk ended at that rather dreary livestock farm, but you’ve got to finish the circular route somehow.
