Penrose to Porthleven

From the National Trust car park at Penrose Hill, and heading around farm fields along Cornish hedges filled with blackberries (well, when in season). Walking high above The Loe, and as the path winds its way south, the views open up to panoramic views of the south Cornish coast and the Loe Bar. Heading towards Porthleven, seeing the clock tower, which, during the winter storms, the seas wash over. After exploring the ancient harbour, the route works it way back up to the start.

Description of the walk

(S/E) Start at >>>> Leave the car park via the entrance, turn left by the thatched cottage, heading south to the signed footpath on the right. Continue on the footpath, still heading south, and the track will run parallel with the path. At the edge of the field, turn left, and southeast, the path will lead around farm buildings. The route will follow around the hill, near the top, with views over The Loe to the east (E) .

(1) On the left, a path will rise up the hill; this is not the plotted route. Continue heading west to the gate, turn left down the hill, the path turns to a minor road.At the bottom of the hill, turn right along the road, which is Loe Bar Road. Continue heading west, passing the driftwood collection on the right; you will know when you pass it. Approaching the Clock Tower, Loe Bar Road turns into Cliff Road.

(2) Now at Porthleven, there is an option to explore the area before continuing on the return route. Head north alongside the harbour (Harbour Road or Commercial Road). Turning right at Shute Lane, then Prospect Place, which leads up steps to Peverell Terrace, turning right and south, turn left before the terrace of old Coastguards Cottages. The war memorial is on the right, and the Coastguards' Cottages have a central section, which is castellated. The path will lead to a playing field. Cut across the field, southeast, to Shrubberies Hill, a lane name. Following along Shrubberies Hill in a northeasterly direction to the thatched cottage at the start, turning right, then left into the car park (S/E).
