Description of the walk

Park near Rue Jean Jaurès in Jeumont.

(S/E) Cross the Sambre and take the towpath on the right towards Erquelinnes-en-Belgique until you reach Route de Mons.

(1) Go under it and continue along the towpath to Lock No. 1 at Solre-sur-Sambre.

(2) Turn right towards the Radoub basin and follow the path to see the lock above the Sambre branch. Continue along the path, keeping the Sambre on your right. Cross Rue Auguste Blariaux and continue straight ahead on the path. Cross the Thure and you will arrive at the side of the castle of Solre-sur-Sambre.

(3) Turn right onto Rue du Château Fort, cross the Thure again and, at the four-way intersection, turn right onto Rue de la Halle and continue for a few metres.

(4) Turn left onto the path. Turn right at the first intersection, pass the tennis club on your right and continue straight ahead until you reach Rue Saint-Médard.

(5) Walk around the Church of Saint-Médard and return to Rue Saint-Médard.

(5) Follow it to the right, then quickly turn left onto Rue Aublaine. At the end, turn left, then right onto Rue Aublaine. Carefully cross Route de Mons and continue straight ahead onto Rue Jeanne. Continue straight ahead and walk alongside wooded areas, including one on your right (Bois de Quèwette).

(6) Shortly afterwards, turn right and continue along Rue Jeanne. Cross the border and enter the municipality of Jeumont via Rue Roger Salengro. Continue to the secondary school.

(7) Continue straight ahead and stay on Rue Roger Salengro. When you reach a fork, follow the left fork onto Rue Faidherbe. Pass a chapel on your right and continue straight ahead until you reach Avenue du Général de Gaulle. Turn right onto Rue Jean Jaurès and you will return to the starting point (S/E).

The starting point isn't easy to find. So we started somewhere else but managed to complete the circular route.
Despite the very rainy weather, the route was lovely around the castle and along the towpath.

It's a bit tricky to find the start of the route, and the beginning of the towpath is average due to the numerous factory buildings, but then it gets much better. The end in Jeumont isn't particularly interesting, but overall it's still worth seeing. The little paths leading to the castle and the castle itself are very nice.
