Via the paths north of Colomiers

A walk north of Colomiers that allows you to get away from it all in a very natural setting – open countryside, fields, a bit of woodland – and, above all, following the course of the River Aussonnelle for part of the way.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the Bassac landscape cemetery.

(S/E) Take the path heading south, then veer right to walk alongside the cemetery on your right-hand side. Reach a small road and follow it to the right.

(1) When the road bends to the left, take the small bridge on the right over the Ruisseau de Bassac. On the other side, turn right and follow the stream on your right as you descend gently.

(2) At the junction, turn left onto theGR®653(red and white markings). Continue straight on until you reach the banks of the River Aussonnelle.

(3) Then turn left and follow the river on your right until you reach a bridge spanning it.

(4) Cross the bridge over the river.

(5) At the T-junction, turn right (let theGR® head off to the left). Further on, walk alongside the Bois de Lamothe on your left. Then enter the woods and gradually head eastwards. You will then reach the Pont Saint-Jean.

(6) Cross the bridge to cross the Aussonnelle again. On the other side, turn immediately right. Cross the Ruisseau de Bassac and you’ll come to a junction you passed on the way there.

(2) Turn left and, following the same route as on the way there but in the opposite direction, return to the car park at Bassac Cemetery (S/E).

It’s a shame the beginning and the end overlap for quite a while! (That’s not a trick, it’s a racket!)

A peaceful walk on the outskirts of Colomiers, featuring woods, bridges, streams, etc
There are several other paths you can take to lengthen or shorten the walk.

A lovely little walk around Colomiers to stretch your legs in the sunshine. The route is easy to follow. It was a pleasant surprise to find a walk that lets you get away from it all, not that far from the town after all. It’s a popular route, but that’s not a problem at all – quite the opposite, in fact!
