Description of the walk

Park in the Tambourettes car park in Pibrac.

(S/E) Head east from the Tambourettes district, following the
red and white markings ofthe GR®653. Pass close to the boules court, then continue along the Chemin de Sartha. Reach a crossroads of paths at a place called La Palanque.

(1) Leave theGR® and take the path opposite, heading for the Pont Saint-Jean.

(2) Just before the bridge, take the path on the left leading uphill, marked in yellow. You will reach the Borde Haute crossroads.

(3) Continue straight on along the Chemin de Griffe, still marked in yellow. Pass through Canteperdrix and Lagriffe and emerge at the junction with the D37 road.

(4) Cross the road and continue straight ahead, passing near Manaut, and carry on to the edge of the forest.

(5) Leave the yellow markings here and enter the Forêt de Bouconne straight ahead. Follow an almost straight path and, at a track, turn left, then take the4th path on the left.

(6) Turn left onto it at a 90° bend; after 5 paths, turn right then left towards Lac de la Bordette.

(7) Walk round the lake, keeping it on your left.

(8) At the end of the loop, head right down a gentle slope and you will soon reach the junction with theGR®653.

(9) Turn right. TheGR® makes a 90° turn at the silo. Head towards Peyrolles and cross the hamlet.

(10) Turn right towards the small bridge over the Courbet stream, then left, following the railway line to the level crossing.

(11) Cross the tracks, take the old Chemin de Brax, then the Boulevard des Écoles.

(12) Head left towards the Sainte Germaine shopping centre, then the basilica of the same name.

(13) After crossing the Esplanade Sainte Germaine to the church, go down the steps towards Pibrac Castle.

(14) At the château, turn right and walk down Rue de la Gare to the Tambourettes car park (S/E).

We searched high and low, but after starting the hike, it was extremely difficult to find the right path. We ended up back where we started after 6 km (with 17 km still to go). We got back in the car and drove to the Bouconne forest.

A lovely walk, partly in the sun and partly in the shade. You can have a picnic by Lake des Bordettes.

Actually, we had to alter the route slightly due to a lack of time (it was already afternoon and the curfew was approaching!)
We set off from the basilica car park, walked past the town hall and headed down towards the railway line.
After the gate, the path on the right crosses the public garden and leads to ‘Les Tambourettes’.
We would have liked to find the shortcuts to avoid the tarmac of the Chemin de la Griffe.
Finally, to shorten the route to 7 km, we turned left to avoid the forest.
To get back to the car, the GR is more comfortable. A 12 km hike
A lovely outing near Toulouse. Thank you

As mentioned in the previous comment, I’d like to point out that it’s really worth popping in to see the church, the basilica and the Sainte-Germaine fountain. That’s pretty much what makes the walk worthwhile. The scenery isn’t all that interesting

A day hike.
I really like this walk because it takes you through the town, the fields and the forest all in one go.
Here are my comments (which are purely my own opinion):
- It’s a shame not to start from the Basilica of Sainte Germaine as it’s really worth seeing up close, as is the church.
- Between points 1 and 2, I prefer the prettier path that follows the GR653 and also goes over the footbridge and Saint Jean Bridge (which I missed on the route as you turn left beforehand).
- Between 6 and 7, it’s really just a straight shot! I preferred to take the side paths that break up the monotony (shown as dotted lines on the IGN map)
- Lake Bordette is superb, like a haven of peace, especially after walking through the forest all morning. A very good spot for a picnic.
- Between 9 and 10, there’s a lot of tarmac; you can continue on the GR653
- At kilometre 10, you must visit the Maison Saint Germaine, which is 200m away; this should be added to the description. The house contains some really interesting information.
- It’s a shame the description doesn’t mention visiting the Saint Germaine Fountain.
