Description of the walk

The start of this route is in the Post Office car park, at the foot of the town hall.

(S/E) From the car park, do not head towards the Grande Rue but walk down towards the boundary wall and the gate to take the path on the left that leads downhill. Cross the Cheuille via the footbridge to reach the foot of the pond. First, walk alongside the pond, keeping it on your right, on the path running parallel to the road, then take the Route de l’Étang for about 200 m until you reach the end of the first bend.

(1) Turn left onto an uphill path lined with hedges. You will reach a tarmac road.

(2) Turn left onto it for about 50 metres, then turn right onto the path. This path ends at another road. Follow it to the right until you reach the hamlet of Jubin.

(3) Turn right to follow this very shady path to Les Girardins, then to the junction with the road.

(4) Turn left to reach Malvau. At the pond, the track becomes a path through the woodland. Continue until you reach a three-way junction.

(5) Take the road on the left. Carry straight on through Les Charretiers and continue for a further 500 m or so until you reach a junction with a cross-path. This is theGR®®3G; it is not signposted, or very poorly so (March 2020).

(6) Take this path by turning left. Ignore the various side branches until you reach a road.

(7) Join this road on the left. Ignore the various paths to the right and left. Pass a small building (sports ground changing rooms) on your right. Shortly afterwards, you’ll come to a junction with a path on the right.

(8) Take this path, following the edge of the woods on your left at the start and then through the middle of the fields. At the crossroads, continue straight on with the woods on your right. You will reach a tarmac road.

(9) Turn left. Walk for about a hundred metres and take a path on the right. Shortly after leaving the hamlet and the wooded area, you’ll come to a crossroads.

(10) Head down to the left towards the wooded areas. When you reach a thick hedge, do not be distracted by a track for farm machinery but go down the embankment and turn immediately right. The path is flanked by wooded strips on either side. Continue downhill and take the first clearly marked path on the left, which curves sharply. Cross the Cheuille via the footbridge to reach the road.

(11) Follow the road to the right for about 100 metres and take the path leading uphill to the left.

(12) Turn left. Pass under a power line and then between farm buildings to reach the D965. Stay alert and keep to the left-hand pavement, passing at the foot of the church. Cross the Route d’Arquian with care, follow the Grande Rue to reach the car park (S/E).

Paths may be muddy in heavy rain. To cross the Cheuille before point (11), use the footbridge on the left.
Although the D965 is within a built-up area, it remains dangerous, so be careful; keep to the left-hand pavement as you head down towards the church.

A very pleasant walk. We came across some lovely sights, even though it’s the end of winter and the countryside isn’t quite as beautiful as it will be in a few weeks’ time.
No difficulty.
One section of road is a bit long, so you need to be careful with children.
I recommend this walk.
