Start: Ottenhöfen railway station / spa gardens
(S/E) From the station/spa gardens, the hiking trail leads into the forest path, then right into Allerheiligenweg and left into Albert-Köhler-Straße, past the Catholic Church of St. Anna and behind it to a crossroads.
(1) Keep right and then turn right onto a small path that leads to Markgraf-Bernhard-Straße, which you follow to the right until the end. A narrow path winds through the forest to a clearing above the village. Here, a bench with a beautiful view of the opposite side of the valley and the Hornisgrinde invites you to linger. Continue on a natural path through the forest over the Eichkopf.
(2) Continue along the path, which soon turns left. This will take you to the "Sausteig" refreshment station. The rest area is a great place to take your first break.
(3) Once you reach the Eichkopfhütte, the trail leads along Blöchereckstraße to Holderbrünnele and down narrow switchbacks to the entrance to the Edelfrauengrab waterfalls.
(4) After just a few metres, you will reach the lower waterfalls with the so-called Edelfrauengrab, a natural cave. In this section, the Gottschlägbach forms several waterfalls up to eight metres high and overcomes a height difference of more than 100 metres over a short distance. The path leads along the stream through the nature reserve to the "Romantische Brückle" (romantic bridge).
Further on, the valley widens and after about 2 km you will reach the drinking fountain in the upper Gottschlägtal valley.
(5) Here, a steadily ascending path branches off to the left towards Herrenschrofen/Karlsruher Grat.
(6) From the Herrenschrofen rock pulpit, you have an interesting view of the deep valley of the Gottschlägtal. Now it is only a few steps to the via ferrata on the Karlsruher Grat.
(7) Once there, you have two options:
a) via the via ferrata to Bosensteiner Eck
b) take the bypass via the Dreierschrofen to the Bosensteiner Eck. This is signposted with the Genießerpfad trail marker.
(8) From Bosensteiner Eck, the trail leads left along extensive pastures to Brennte Schrofen.
(9) Here, a shelter built by the forest owner invites you to rest and linger. The viewing rock in front of it offers magnificent views of the village of Ottenhöfen in the Black Forest and its numerous side valleys.
(10) Continue to Wachholderberg, turn left and hike through a coniferous forest to the idyllic Flautzbach stream. Along the Flautzbach valley, with its moss-covered old stone walls, continue towards Hubersloch. On the way there, you can make a short detour to the Bromberg refreshment station before continuing on the Genießerpfad trail to Huberloch.
(11) Here you leave the forest and Ottenhöfen with its picturesque side valleys stretches out before you. Before continuing along a meadow path, the so-called Briefträgerweg (postman's path) leads to Bromberg. From here, you have another beautiful view of Ottenhöfen in the Black Forest, where a rotating sky lounger invites you to take a break. Continue to follow the markings until you reach the road again. The path leads a few metres downhill on the road to the signpost "Bromberg".
(12) Turn right there. The hiking trail continues to the "Hotel Sternen" at the entrance to the village (Hagenbruck).
(13) After crossing Edelfrauengrabstraße and the bridge over the Gottschlägbach stream, you will come to Theresienweg.
(14) You will pass the Protestant church, which was built in the style of a Norwegian stave church.
(1) You will come back to the junction at the Catholic church and take Allerheiligenstraße and the forest path back to the train station/spa gardens (S/E).
