The walk starts at the bandstand in Ohain’s village square.
(S/E) Head diagonally downwards to your left and follow Rue du Batty for 200 metres.
(1) Quite soon, turn right onto a narrow path, the Ruelle des Trépassés, which descends quite steeply and joins theGR®®126Brussels–Membre-sur-Semois, which you’ll come across again later on your route.
Follow thisGR®® on your left, cross a small stream – the Smohain – and continue until you reach a large farm.
(2) At the farm, take a wide grassy path on your right, leaving the farm on your left. The path soon winds its way between the embankments to cross a woodland.
(3) When you reach the tarmac road, cross it and leave theGR®®126. Immediately turn left onto a small path, the Sentier du Monument Prussien, which quickly widens. The path crosses a main road and climbs up through the fields in front of you. At the top of the hill, you’ll reach the Von Schwerin Monument, where you continue to the left.
(4) You’ll reach Rue du Vieux Monument, where you turn right. Continue along this path, pass through a copse, and at the next junction, turn left onto Rue du Bois de Paris. Walk through a residential area of Ohain and cross Rue du Bois Éloi.
(5) Then turn right onto a small cobbled road that crosses a vast open countryside, Rue de Fichermont, until you reach a copse on your left.
(6) Enter the copse on your left via the Sentier du Champ Colombier and continue along this path. After the descent, the path climbs again, then descends once more. On the descent, you will see an abandoned farm on your left and, ahead of you, after crossing the small road, the path climbs once more.
(7) You’ll come to a fairly wide tarmac road where you’ll see a chapel and an imposing castle ahead of you. Turn right and follow this road, pass the castle, then turn left onto a cobbled street.
(8) Continue to the right along the Chemin de la Sablonnière. Follow it uphill and carry on straight ahead for about 900 metres until you reach a hedge via the Sentier de Doury. At the hedge, turn left and follow it along the Chemin du Piroit. This joins the Chemin de l’Alouette. The path offers sweeping views of the countryside. Keep to the right at the junction and then carry on straight ahead along this path. On your left you will see a small chapel and the Waterloo golf course will be on your right.
(9) Keep to your left and walk alongside the golf course on your right. You’ll come to a crossroads where you should take a cobbled path downhill on your right, the Sentier des Fosses. After about 300 metres, join a path on your right that leads uphill alongside the golf course, the Sentier de l’Abbaye.
(10) Follow this path; further on, cross the Chemin du Bosquet and continue along the Sentier de l’Abbaye. You will pass through the Waterloo golf course. When you reach the T-junction, take the Vieux Chemin de Wavre on your left and keep left.
(11) Turn left onto the sunken lane, the Chemin des Boiteux, and follow it for about 800 metres.
(12) Turn right onto a very narrow path that climbs steeply through the woods, the Chemin du Bois de Theule. Walk past a sports ground and you’ll come to a small tarmac road. Keep to your right, carry on, cross the Vieux Chemin de Wavre and continue along the Chemin du Peque for about 300 metres.
(13) Turn right onto a footpath that will take you through the woods, the Sentier du Bois. This winds its way through the woods and comes out onto a large meadow. Continue left along the Sentier du Pontceau and walk alongside the meadow. This path will take you through another small wood, after which you’ll reach a tarmac road.
Turn left. At the end of the street, you’ll see the restaurant La Roseraie. Continue along the road to your left and head back up towards the centre of Ohain via the steep, cobbled street, Rue de l’Église Saint-Étienne. You’ll arrive at the Place Communale, your starting point (S/E).
