Circular route to Couture-Saint-Germain and La Lasne

Here is a circular walk allowing you to discover the beautiful spots of the Lasne - Couture-Saint-Germain area, sometimes completely surrounded by nature, sometimes passing through the pretty neighbourhoods of this area. It involves a lot of ups and downs: the walk is in the "Brabant double 'v'allon" and the views are superb.

Description of the walk

Parking available along the road.

(S/E) Start the walk at the small chapel on Route de la Marache, near the Papelotte farm. Turn your back on the small chapel and the farm, and take the sunken path opposite on the GRP®127 "Tour du Brabant wallon". At the first junction, turn left onto Rue Babeau/path no. 35.

(1) At the next junction, continue straight ahead. The path descends steeply and climbs just as steeply after the dip. At the top, the path becomes sandy and stony. It alternates between descents and ascents; continue straight ahead at the crossroads to reach Rue de Fichermont.

(2) Cross the road, then the field opposite, staying on the "Sentier du Champ". At the end of the path, next to the farm entrance on Rue Bois Éloi, continue straight ahead between the house hedge and the field until you reach Rue Bois Lionnert. A short right/left turn leads to Rue Bois Paris.

(3) Head up this street to the left. Pass Rue Cloqueau on your left and, shortly afterwards, take the right-hand fork at the "Y" junction, following Rue du Vieux Monument, still on the GRP®127. A little further on, you’ll find the first beautiful view of the Lasne valley. Cross the woods and you will soon reach a path, the "Sentier du Trou du Diable" (no. 62), on the GR® 126 Brussels – Membre-sur-Semois.

(4) Follow it to the right along a path between two fences (lovely view to the left) and then into a wood, initially on level ground before a steep descent followed by an ascent. Continue straight on, ignoring any paths to the right or left, until the path continues as a steeply sloping road. At the bottom are the Lasne valley and the main road. Cross over.

(5) Take Rue du Village, located directly opposite. At the start of the climb, do not follow the GR®126 but stay on the road that climbs, turning left. Continue to the church. You are in Couture-Saint-Germain.

(6) Take the first street on the left below the church, Rue du Petit Champ. On the descent, just before the hedge of a garden on the left, take path no. 26 (Sentier du Petit Champ). Shortly after entering the woods, you’ll reach the Lasne. Continue to the Route de l’Etat and cross it.

(7) Opposite, follow the path which climbs to the edge of the woods and leads into them on a steep ascent. Cross Rue du Vieux Monument and continue straight on until you reach the monument.

(8) Carry on, then cross Rue de Genleau to reach Chemin des Haies. Turn left and cross Rue de Genleau again to continue straight ahead into Rue Bois Paris. You are now back on the GRP®127. Ignore the Bois Paris path that crosses your path and continue to the next junction.

(9) Turn right onto Rue Perchère until you reach the start of its right-hand bend. Opposite you, i.e. on your left, follow the Vallée Thomas path which leads you onto Rue de Genleau. Cross the road and head down Chemin du Paradis until you reach a T-junction.

(10) Take the street on the right for about ten metres; this is not the entrance to a property, despite the letterbox on the corner. Head down the Sentier du Champ de Genleau on the left. It runs along the back of the gardens and leads you onto the Chemin du Cheval de Bois. Turn right. Cross Rue Beau-Chêne and continue straight ahead until you reach the T-junction formed by Rue de Genleau.

(11) Cross it to get onto the pavement and head down to the right until you reach Route de la Marache. Turn left. The road climbs a little further on. Take the first path on the right (Chemin du Piroit (no. 32)), which has poor paving. Pass the chapel and, a little further on, turn left into what looks like a property entrance. The Chemin du Charron runs alongside its fence, then makes the first turn left then right to pass between two fields.

(12) When you reach a house, cross Chemin de l’Alouette and head downhill over rough cobblestones. At the next T-junction, turn left onto Chemin des Catamouriaux then right onto Route de la Marache to return to your starting point (S/E).
