Park after Linthal at the Brun monument (road D430).
Red-white-red markings
(S/E) Cross the road and take the steps at the Brun monument. Follow the marked path, which quickly joins a forest road.
(1) At the first fork, leave the forest road on the left, which will be the return route, and continue.
(2) Leave the road and take the first path on the left to climb into the forest. The path climbs steeply through the woods. Follow this path, which crosses a forest road. Continue climbing.
(3) Join a forest road, which you will follow before leaving it to reach Lac du Ballon.
(4) Pass the Seebach Waterfall on your right.
(5) Climb the stairs onto the dyke and follow the dyke to the right to reach the forest road.
(6) Continue along the road that runs alongside the lake until you reach a path on the right.
(7) The path climbs into the forest, crosses a forest road and continues with a gentler slope. The summit of the Grand Ballon comes into view and the path leads to the Ferme-Auberge de Haag. Walk to the farm and then follow the Route des Crêtes for a short while.

(8) Climb up to the Grand Ballon by taking the path on the right, which allows you to walk almost all the way around the Grand Ballon. Reach the summit by passing at the foot of the Monument des Diables Bleus.
(9) For the descent, take the north-northeast path that descends towards the ski school and the Route des Crêtes, passing in front of the ruins of the old hotel.
(10) Join the Route des Crêtes and follow it downhill to the left until you reach the big left-hand bend

(11) There, take the path that branches off to the right towards the Ferme-Auberge de Roedelen, pass it and continue towards the Ferme-Auberge du Gustiberg.
Blue triangle markings
(13) Pass in front of the farm and follow the markings on the left, which descend into a field and join the forest.
(14) Pass in front of the Cabane du Eckgrod and continue towards the Monument Brun. This path winds its way, sometimes cutting across a forest road and sometimes following it.

(1) Turn right and return to the car park where you started (S/E).
