Brunémont marshes and wildlife observation

Departure from the car park at Brunémont Town Hall.

(S/E) Take the D247 (Rue Neuve) to the roundabout.

(1) Turn right onto Rue de l'Abbaye, pass in front of the chalet by the pond and between the two ponds, Marais de Brunémont and Marais d'Aubigny.

(2) At the restaurant L'Escale, before the big left turn, cross the Navie, then pass in front of the Roubaisien campsite. Then cross the Canal de la Sensée and, at the three-way junction at the Abbaye du Verger, take the D14 to the right for a good hundred metres.

(3) Turn right and walk alongside the Abbaye campsite on your right. Follow the Canal de la Sensée, then turn left towards the communal pond, lots No. 1 and 2.

(4) Leave the PR® at the three-way junction and turn left onto the GR®121. Ignore the path on the left a few dozen metres further on. Reach a crossroads not far from the Palluel lock and join the D21.

(5) Cross the Canal du Nord bridge, turning carefully right onto the D21. Continue along Rue d'en Haut. Go straight ahead, passing in front of the Oratory, then the forecourt of the Church of Notre-Dame de la Visitation, and continue to the roundabout.

(6) Take the second street on the left, Rue de la Paix, and continue along Chemin du Marais. At the three-way junction, keep right to reach the car park. Turn right and walk along the Marais du Grand Clair for about 300 metres to reach the banks of the Canal Malderrez.

(7) Turn right and follow the canal for about 300 metres, then turn left to cross it and follow the road to the junction with Rue du Moulin (D65).

(8) Follow it to the left, cross the Pont des Prussiens bridge in Arleux and continue to the junction at La Chaussée.

(9) Turn right onto Chemin des Biselles, cross the bridge over the Sensée, then pass the water treatment plant and arrive at Rue du Bias.

(10) Turn right onto this street, then turn left onto Chemin de Halage along the Canal du Nord until you reach the first bridge.

(11) Turn right to cross it, and continue along Rue André-Joseph-le-Glay (D47). Pass in front of La Tourtière restaurant, then at the roundabout, turn right onto Rue de Brunémont with the PR®. Pass the Brunémont pumping station.

(12) Continue on the right and reach the entrance to Brunémont. Turn right at the crossroads to the Blancs Moutons farm.

(13) Turn left onto Rue d'en Bas, pass the Brunémont primary school and return to the town hall car park (S/E).

The path may be muddy after (11) in case of heavy rain.
