Description of the walk

Start at Col de Menufosse, car park next to the shelter.

(S/E) From the car park, take the path that climbs and is marked with a Red Diamond. After about a hundred metres, turn left, following the same markings.

(1): At the fork, turn left, continuing to follow the Red Diamond markings to reach the Piquante Pierre.

(2): From La Piquante Pierre, admire the view of the Vosges to the south (notably the Ballon d’Alsace), then walk a few dozen metres north towards the picnic table to see the panorama of the Northern Vosges. From there, take the path heading down to the west, still marked by the Red Diamond. After a few hundred metres, the Red Diamond markings split into two routes; take the right-hand path, though the two routes eventually rejoin.

(3) Continue following the Red Diamond markings. The path continues to descend.

(4) To see the panoramic view at this spot, you’ll need to take a small path on the right. Again, use the app to locate it as it’s not signposted. Then continue following the Red Diamond markings. You’ll reach the lowest point of the route. The path turns into a track that crosses the road coming from Planois (Route des Plateaux); turn right here to reach the Col de la Fourchure.

(5) At the pass, there are two options for reaching the hamlet of Les Plateaux:
- follow the path marked with a Green Triangle.
- continue along the road, heading uphill to the right towards the hamlet of Les Plateaux, following the suggested route.

(6) On arriving at the hamlet, there is a lodge on the right, slightly below. Continue along the road and rejoin the Green Triangle markings. Follow these markings until you reach a pumping station on the right, then a memorial stone on the left.

(7) At the memorial stone, head up to the left, still following the Green Triangle markings. After a short but steep climb, the path branches off to the right and leads to a crossroads.

(8) Immediately turn left, following the Blue Ring markings which lead to the Tourbière du Champâtre and the Roches Saint-Jacques.

(9) Once you reach the bog and the Roches Saint-Jacques, follow the Green Disc and Green Ring markings back to the previous junction.

(8) From this junction, follow the Green Triangle and Blue Ring markings to rejoin the Red Diamond route, which you took at the start of the hike.

(1) Then turn left; all that remains is to walk down to the car park. (S/E).

We did the route with three dogs, one of which has very poor eyesight, and two girls aged 11 and 12.
A very well-signposted path with lovely views. A lovely stretch in the shade of the trees.
A few trees have fallen across the path, but that doesn’t stop us from carrying on.
Really delighted with the first hike of our week’s holiday. The weather was magnificent.

I had trouble finding the St Jacques stone – the signposts were down. I used the app to find my way, cutting through the woods that had been trampled by the bulls. I found my way back without any problems. There were some stunning views of the Vosges forest.

A lovely walk, starting with a beautiful view from the bridge; then you walk along the edge of the forest – the trees are indeed diseased, but that’s nature for you.

A nice walk, but nothing more (lots of diseased trees spoil the enjoyment)

A lovely walk. The mist prevented me from enjoying the view.
The signposting and route description are accurate up to just past the “point 8” junction. The circular route towards “9” is poorly signposted.
Luckily, the path turns left regularly, leading you back to “8”!!!
I didn’t see the Roches Saint Jacques!!
Otherwise, a pleasant walk, despite the forestry work.
Well maintained and marked, through the ferns.

We were a bit disappointed with this route; although there were some lovely views, there was a lot of forestry work going on and the paths were in poor condition. We had trouble at point 3 – there were no markings – but managed to find the path again at point 6.
