Description of the walk

(S) From the village of Macugnaga, head north to the cable car station and the Chiesa Vecchia, continue along wide then narrow hairpin bends to reach Alpe Bill and then the intermediate station.

(1) Continue parallel to the upper cable car, then move away from it and cross it at an altitude of 2,200 metres.

(3) Head north and begin the long descent between the rocky ridges, then through alpine pastures and finally into the valley of the stream flowing from the Täliboden glacier. Reach the Distelalp bridge.

(4) Cross the bridge and take the paved road on the left bank of Lake Mattmark. Reach the dyke (E).

Then take the bus towards Saas Fée and get off at the terminus to reach the lodge hotel.

Notes

Two refuges at Col de Monte Moro or Moropass are accessible and make for an interesting stop before beginning the descent towards Switzerland.
Please note: the start of the descent is covered with snow in July. The slope is quite steep, so caution is advised for those who are uncomfortable on this type of terrain.
