The Lassaulx Cross commemorates Mademoiselle Lassaulx, who was fatally attacked on Friday 20 March 1903 whilst returning from Verviers, where she had gone to sell her butter and eggs and do some shopping. She succumbed to her injuries the following day. Ultimately, no culprit was formally identified. Five years later, another murder took place in the village: Mrs Ruwet suffered the same fate as her friend, Mrs Lassaulx. The investigation revealed absolutely nothing, and a veil of mystery shrouded these unpunished crimes.
