Circular walk between the woods of Gemmenich and Moresnet

A lovely circular route starting from Gemmenich, offering a chance to discover varied landscapes including forest paths, small country lanes and the railway heritage of the Moresnet area.

The walk crosses the woods between Gemmenich and La Calamine, passing notably through the Red Cross forest junction, then descends towards Buschhausen and Moresnet, following the old railway infrastructure in places. The return leg offers a different perspective on the region, passing through Marveld, Rodbusch and the Gemmenich countryside.

A varied and pleasant route that alternates between wooded sections, footpaths, small roads and views of the rolling countryside of the Three Borders region.

Description of the walk

Starting point: Rue de Moresnet in Gemmenich, near the Collège Notre-Dame.

From the starting point, follow Rue de Moresnet, then take Rue du Sablon.

Then continue along Rue Pinaye to the entrance to the woods.

Carry on along the forest track towards the crossroads known locally as the ‘Red Cross’.

At the ‘Red Cross’ crossroads, take the path leading back down towards Rue d’Aix and the railway bridge.

Join Rue d’Aix and walk down it towards Buschhausen.

In Buschhausen, take the small footpath that runs alongside the railway line, parallel to the Moresnet bridge.

Follow this path until you reach Rue du Viaduc.

Continue along Rue du Viaduc to Rue du Village and carry on towards the centre of Moresnet.

Walk pastthe Moresnet Primary School, located on Rue du Village.

Then carry on towards Marveld.

Follow the road towards Marveld until you reach Rue du Rodbusch.

Carry on along Rue du Rodbusch until you reach Rue de la Coul.

Follow Rue de la Coul until it joins Rue de Moresnet.

At Rue de Moresnet, turn left and continue to the starting point in Gemmenich.

The walk thus forms a complete circular route between Gemmenich, the surrounding woods and Moresnet.
