Logroño - Nájera

The fifty-second stage of the Camino de Santiago. For this stage, the route leaves Logroño via a pleasant walk through the large La Grajera park and its lake of the same name, continuing on to Navarrete, a town renowned for its crafts. After a gentle climb leading up to Alto de San Antón, from where you can already see Nájera, the route takes you to the red rocks of the River Najerilla, where the ancient royal town of Nájera is situated.

(2) With your back to the cathedral, continue along Calle Portales to the left (west). Refreshments available. Continue straight on until you reach the roundabout.

(3) Take the3rd exit towards Burgos. Here you will find theGR®65signposting. Continue along Calle Marqués de Murrieta to the roundabout with a palm tree in the centre.

(4) Go round the roundabout and continue straight ahead on the same street until you reach the roundabout with a tree in the centre.

(5) Take thethird exit on the left to continue along Calle Duques de Nájera. Carry on until you reach the start of the bend, after the traffic lights.

(6) Head right to cross Laguna Park, go over the footbridge over the railway line and cross Park Europa. Take another footbridge (Pont de Madera) to cross over Rue Portillejo.

(7) Continue through San Miguel Park until you reach a roundabout opposite a Kia car dealership.

(8) Cross carefully, walk past the garage and cross again carefully to continue through the park. Walk on to the tunnel that takes you under the Logroño ring road.

(9) After the ring road, turn right and continue along the slightly uphill path to the footbridge that crosses over the Campo del Golf road.

(10) Continue on to enter Grajera Park. Walk past a small shrine dedicated to the Virgen del Rocío and carry on until you reach Grajera Lake.

(11) Turn right to walk along the left-hand side of the lake and reach its far end, where you’ll find a picnic area.

(12) Turn left twice, cross a small wooden bridge and continue along the lake. Pass the public toilets and carry on until you reach a picnic area near two large masts belonging to the RTVE transmission centre.

(13) Turn right after the picnic area, then left heading south between the vineyard plots. Continue through the vineyard until you reach a fork.

(14) Turn slightly to the right, then a little further on, make a 90° turn. Pass under a high-voltage power line before reaching the A12 motorway.

(15) Continue westwards, keeping the motorway on your right. Pass a vineyard and then a timber yard. In the distance, you can see the Toro de Osborne de Navarrete, a huge bull on a hill.

(16) Continue along the N120 until you reach a bridge.

(17) Carry on straight ahead. Please note: the area has been completely altered and does not match the map. Cross a new blue bridge before reaching a Stop sign.

(22) Stay on Calle Mayor Baja, a cobbled street that rises in the middle, until you reach the central square where there is a public fountain with a sculpture of a woman carrying a jug of water on her head.

(23) Continue along the same street until you reach Plaza del Aro.

(24) Carry on straight ahead, then turn left at the first street. Continue down to the stop sign.

(25) Continue straight on the LR-137 towards Nájera. Carry on to the stop sign at the junction with the N-120.

(37) Cross carefully and head straight ahead. Turn left at the fork and continue until you see some concrete steps.

Worth a visit

(11) Lake La Grajera
(21) Navarrete: the town developed around Tedeón Hill and the castle built by Alfonso VIII to defend his border with Navarre. It belonged alternately to Castile and Navarre. Navarrete is a town on the Way of St James. Today, economic activity centres on ceramics and pottery. - Nearby: a cemetery with a 12th-century Romanesque gate, which comes from the old church attached to the medieval pilgrims’ hospice of San Juan de Acre, the remains of which can be seen a kilometre from the village.
