Connection from Montluçon station to Huriel

(S) From Montluçon station, follow Avenue Marx Dormoy opposite via Place Centrale. You will reach Place Edouard Piquand at the foot of the castle.

(1) Turn right onto Rue des Serruriers, then Rue Grande. At the end of the street, you will come to Place Notre-Dame. Continue left onto Rue de la Fontaine. At the end, turn left onto Rue des 5 Piliers, then right onto Place Saint-Pierre, which continues onto Rue Porte Saint-Pierre.

(2) Cross Boulevard Carnot to take Rue du Faubourg Saint-Pierre. Continue to the bridge of the same name. On the left, follow the Cher river to Pont des Îles (second road bridge).

(3) Continue straight ahead and take a small bridge on the right to cross the Polier. At the exit, follow Promenade Barbara on the left, which runs alongside the river and leads to Rue du Gué de Bedet in Les Îlets.

(4) Turn right, then left towards the racecourse, which you will go around on the right. Behind a grandstand, follow a path along the Cher. Take the footbridge across the river to reach Trois Champs, a hamlet in Lavault Sainte-Anne.

(5) Take the D304 on the right, then turn left onto a grassy path. Continue along the road on the left, then take the path on the right-hand side of the woods until you reach a car park. Take the path that goes around the south side of the Bois de la Brosse. You will come to a fork in the road.

(6) Follow the road, which becomes a track, then a path. At the D72, turn left until you reach the Pont Vert roundabout. Cross carefully and, at the first crossroads, turn left and continue along the track on the right, then left until you reach the road.

(7) Cut across and go right. When you reach the water tower, go straight on the road to Les Quatre Rouettes, a locality in the commune of Prémilhat.

(8) Cross the D240 with caution and take the road opposite. At the end, turn left, then follow a path on the right that runs alongside a stream. Take a small bridge on the left, then walk along the Étang de Sault.

(9) Leave the beach and take Chemin des Baliveaux on the left. Continue to the D745: cross it carefully and follow the road on the left before turning right, then left onto a path. At the corner of a copse, turn right. Follow the woods and turn left at the crossroads to reach Couraud.

(10) Turn right onto Impasse de la Font Chaude, pass a crossroads and continue along Rue de la Planche. Cross the D605 with caution, then turn onto a path opposite. Continue straight ahead until you reach the road.

(11) Take the road on the left to Clairembois. At the crossroads, follow Chemin de la Vallée opposite, which passes under a dual carriageway. Before the tennis courts, turn right and head for a car park. Walk along the stadium and you will reach a roundabout.

(12) Turn left and cross the D916 carefully at the pedestrian crossing. Follow the road to the left, take the first path on the right, then left. Cross through a wood. Turn right, then left to take a track going straight ahead, cross a road and arrive at the cemetery.

(13) Continue along the same track, pass two other roads and reach an intersection at a place called Clos de Tréloux.

(14) Take the path on the left and, at the end, turn left again. At the first houses in Crevant, keep to the right at the edge of the woods, then turn left. You will reach a crossroads in the centre of the hamlet.

(15) Turn right onto the D916 for a few metres, then turn right into Impasse Joliot-Curie. Continue along this road and follow a grassy path that joins La Perelle via the D340. Turn left onto the D340 to reach the D114.

(16) Cross over and take the sandy path opposite to Priou des Fosses.

(17) Turn left towards Genebrière. You will come to a bend in the D114, which you should follow.

(18) Continue right along Rue des Bazates, which quickly turns left. Go straight on to Les Riaux, then turn left onto a gravel track. Continue to Salles and cross the village.

(19) Continue straight ahead on Chemin des Caves at the back of the hamlet. You will come to a bend in Rue des Remparts. Follow the road to the left before turning left towards the village hall. On the right, head towards the centre of the village of Huriel (market hall, Toque town hall).

(20) From the centre of the village, turn right twice to take the shopping street and join Rue de l'Église, crossing Rue des Remparts. Pass in front of the church, take Rue de la Croix at the three-way junction and follow Sentier des Maîtres Sonneurs on the left, which leads to Nohant (E).

This walk provides access to the Sentier des Maitres Sonneurs.
