Access to the starting point: From Volvic (south-west of Riom), take the D986 towards Pontgibaud. Stay in the right-hand lane and leave the D986, following the signs for "Sources de Volvic" where you will find the bottling plant car park.
(S/E) From the car park, turn left onto the path going uphill, following theGR®441(red and white markings). Ignore the two paths on the right.
(1) At the crossroads, continue straight ahead until you reach the D16.
(2) Cross the road (caution: poor visibility!), reach a fork 20 metres ahead and turn right. At the water source, follow the path that curves to the right and continues straight ahead along the solidified lava flow of the Nugère (around the path are old stone quarries).
(3) Leave the Dr Moity trail on your left. At the tarmac road, turn right and cross Les Goulots. 50 metres after this hamlet, take a wide path on the left.
(4) At the fork, turn right and continue to a small road.
(5) Turn right onto it and continue to Moulet-Marcenat. At the stop sign, turn right onto the D16, pass the communal oven and turn left onto a small tarmac road which quickly becomes a dirt track.
(6) At the crossroads, continue straight ahead (view of the Puys de Louchadière, Jumes and Nugère and the Tunisset quarry). Pass a path on the right to reach a crossroads.
(7) At the crossroads, go down a grassy path on the right until you reach a tarmac road. Follow it to the left until you reach a dirt track before the power line, near Viallard (view of the Chaîne des Puys), ignoring three paths on the left.
(8) Turn left onto this path (the fourth on the left). After 30 metres, continue to the left. At the fork, turn right until you reach a T-junction (join theGR®441).
(9) Turn right. Ignore a path on the left and then another on the right.
(10) At the fork, turn left, ignore a path on the right and continue to a second T-junction (view of the Château de Tournoël). Descend to the right to a tarmac road.
(11) Cross it and continue along the path opposite, which slopes down to the left, parallel to the road. At the three-way junction, take the road on the right, which leads back to the bottling plant car park (S/E).
