Les Réages Tortus, La Louvetière and Les Quatre Chemins

A loop that starts with a steep climb between the rocks, then alternates between forest and plateau sections and shorter sections between fields. After a stretch along the edge of the woods, the hike ends on the wide grassy bank of the underground aqueduct of La Vanne and Le Loing.

Description of the walk

Start from the bench of the underground aqueduct of La Vanne and Le Loing (masonry structures), along the D83 road west of the village of Soisy-sur-École. Parking is available along the path parallel to the bench or at the edge of the woods.

Yellow markings

(S/E) Follow the path north towards the woods. At the edge of the woods, cross a path which, on the left, is lined with small posts (across the width of the underground aqueduct). Step onto the left side of the aqueduct and, in the middle of the bollards, turn right (yellow arrow on the last bollard). Climb between the rocks on a steep slope.
N.B. Several trails intersect on the climb, so follow the markings carefully, which are dense in this area.

Yellow + orange markings

At the top of the hill (private property barrier on the right), continue north. At a fork (not shown on the IGN map), follow the path on the right which leads to a crossroads.

Red and white markings

(1) At the crossroads, take the second path on the left and follow theGR®11. Immediately cross a path and then, at a fork, go left. Descend briefly, climb up a few small rocks that form a sort of steps and turn right immediately. Walk westwards along a winding sandy path with a few rocks protruding from the ground. At two forks (not shown on the map), always take the left path. The path veers south-west and reaches a short field boundary on the right-hand side.

(2) Continue along the path through the undergrowth and soon you will come to a second field on your right. Ignore a vague path on the left and continue south. At a crossroads, continue straight ahead and, a few metres later, turn right and leave the woods. Continue east-northeast, ignoring any paths branching off to the sides. After passing a wasteland on your left and then a final patch of woods, walk about a hundred metres across the fields (radio tower in the distance opposite).

(3) At the crossroads, turn left (no signpost here) and follow a farm track south to the D83 road. Cross the road and take a path opposite, slightly to the right, with woods on your left. Enter the woods and you will come to a metal gate blocking the path (there are no fewer than three signs indicating that entry is prohibited).

(4) Turn right and follow a fence on your left along a path that is poorly marked in places. At the end of the path, turn left and, at the fork immediately ahead, turn right. At the next fork, take the left-hand path. Continue west with a fence on your right. Near elevation 131, ignore a path on the right, veer left and continue along the path for about 100 metres.

(5) At a sort of pit surrounded by large boulders (an old sandstone quarry?), leave the path and turn left. Be careful, as the start of the path is inconspicuous. There is no signpost, just a marker on a rock on the ground on the left and a cross if you continue along the path.
Head south and descend steadily along a path with a few exposed rocks.

(6) At the bottom, at the edge of the field, turn left towards some houses. The path quickly gives way to a tarmac lane. Follow it to the end, ignoring a small road coming from the right. After the last house, continue east-south-east on a path at the edge of the woods and ignore the paths leading off to the left into the woods or to the right between the fields.

(7) At the EDF power station, turn left, enter the woods and, at the fork immediately ahead, turn right. Heading generally east, alternate between paths through the woods and paths along the edge.

Orange markings

(8) At the corner of the woods, just before the D948 road, leave theGR®11, which continues towards the road, and turn left onto a path that is poorly marked in places and runs along the edge of the woods on your left and a field on your right.

Orange + yellow markings

(9) At the end of the field, turn left and follow the wide grassy bank of the underground aqueduct of La Vanne and Le Loing. Leave the masonry structures of the aqueduct on your left. About 150 metres later, at elevation 89, follow the bank that heads north-northeast and crosses a path.

Yellow markings

At a fork (not shown on the map), take the right-hand path and enter the undergrowth. Wind your way along, alternating between short ascents and descents. Return to the wide grassy bench and follow it along the edge of the woods on your left.

(10) Continue along the aqueduct path, which turns right and heads between the fields. Cross a path and pass at the foot of an isolated tree on the right-hand side. Turn right and you will reach a masonry structure of the aqueduct. Go through a forest gate, cross the D83 road and continue either on the bench or on the path to its right to return immediately to the car park (S/E).

A very pleasant autumn walk, without any major difficulties, mostly under trees and along ploughed fields.

There are some rather excessive messages everywhere against hunters, motorbikes and lots of other things, which is a shame! We did this short walk without any real difficulty during the week and didn't meet anyone. Some places are a bit sad, with lots of broken-down huts and piles of rubble and rubbish left lying around. Perhaps that's why there are messages everywhere? Beautiful scenery nonetheless. Be careful around the platières (flat areas); don't stray from the GR trail as there is a lot of barbed wire

We had trouble finding our way at the start, we weren't in the right car park (note: it's not the car park next to the boules court). Then we had a nice walk, with lovely views of the valley as we reached the plateaus, and we didn't meet many people. This short walk is very pleasant.

A very pleasant hike. No particular difficulties. The climb up the rocks is not that steep, even though it is at the beginning of the hike. Very few people on the trail for a Sunday, which is very nice.

Some explanations are not very clear at the start of the hike. I strongly recommend bringing a compass.
A beautiful route offering a variety of pleasures and landscapes. A very quiet hike, which adds to its appeal.
I recommend it to everyone.

What a pleasure to discover such a beautiful hike in an area where we walk a lot. Very varied landscapes, few elevation changes after the slightly challenging climb at the start. To be done in the recommended direction. There have been some clearings in one area, so stay alert to stay on the path (check the map).
It is easy to park at the edge of the forest at the start (driveway near the aqueduct).

Car left at the edge of the woods (accessible by car / several spaces). Varied and pleasant hike, no difficulty. The directions are precise. Only one mountain bike encountered (on a Wednesday)

A very pleasant route, interesting for its diverse landscapes, very quiet (only one mountain bike encountered).

A small correction to point 3: there is indeed a marker to the left of the path before the intersection, but it is hidden by vegetation.

Thank you for the quality of the description.

A very pleasant hike with a variety of landscapes and trails. The description is perfect, impossible to get lost.
However, we did it in 2 hours and 20 minutes without rushing at all, so the time shown is overestimated...
I recommend it!

Very good route, very varied. Forest, trails, fields, plains, rocks, wooded edges. Perfect for families. I just had a few doubts at certain intersections and used Google Maps to help me a little. Thank you for this description.

this is the second time I've done this hike (two years between the two times). This time, I did it with someone else. The hike isn't particularly difficult, apart from the steep climb at the start, which takes you over rocks. Three quarters of the route is on shaded paths and wide open spaces. Everything you need when hiking with dogs.
However, there is very little parking space. Not far from the start, there is a fairly large parking area. You just have to walk along the road to reach the start of the hike.

A pleasant walk, with no major difficulties apart from two steep sections on rocky terrain, uphill at the start and downhill halfway through the hike.
The route is easy to follow, with markings that are almost always legible and accessible with minimal observation.
Three deer were spotted very close to the bench on the way back in the late afternoon.

A very pleasant short walk, with lovely stretches through the woods and then along the Vanne aqueduct. A bit long along the fields.
No major difficulties except for the uphill start (warm up a little beforehand)
