Description of the walk

Park in the Champcueil town hall car park on Rue Royale.

(S/E) Leaving the car park, take Rue Royale to the right and, at the bend, when Rue Royale becomes Chemin de Bois-Rillet, continue straight ahead along the path between the fields on the GRP® Les vallées de l'Essonne. Reach the edge of a wood.

(1) Leave the GRP® and take the grassy road on the right of the Aqueduc de la Vanne. After a bend to the left, near a copse, the road turns into a path and joins the D153. Cross it carefully and walk along the right-hand side of the Georges Clemenceau Hospital buildings.

(2) Continue straight ahead on the path between the fields, heading west, until you reach a T-junction.

(3) Turn left and climb into the Coudraye Forest to join the GR®11.

(4) Follow it southwards, along the edge of the woods, until you reach a crossroads.

(5) Turn right into the Bois d'Épignon and continue to the Chemin de Ballancourt.

(6) Follow the GR®11, which turns sharply left, and almost immediately leave this path, which becomes a large avenue. Turn right onto the GR®11 and continue to a crossroads.

(7) Turn left with the GR® and stay on the main path until you reach Mondeville. Follow Ruelle des Fossettes, then Rue de Ballancourt, until you reach Place de l'Église.

(8) Take Grande Rue on the right and, at the bend, turn left onto Route de la Padôle. Pass the emergency services centre and continue for 1.6 km until you reach an intersection.

(9) Turn left onto Chemin du Gâtinais (tarmac) and, after about 100 metres, turn right down into the woods (yellow markings on the electricity pole). The path joins the GRP® des Vallées de l'Essonne just before the exit from the woods.

(10) Leave the woods and walk along the edge towards the aqueduct, following the GRP®, which turns left onto the aqueduct road, heading north-west. Follow it for about 300 metres.

(11) Leave the GRP® when it turns right, then continue straight ahead and cross the Chemin du Gâtinais in the middle of the fields. It is best to follow the path that runs along the aqueduct on the right.

(12) At the entrance to the Bois de la Valette, continue straight ahead on the GRP® and, just before it bends to the left, leave it by turning right and arrive at a Y-junction.

(13) Turn left and follow the path, which becomes a track and then a street, until you reach Rue de Noisement.

(14) Turn right and follow this street to the church of Champcueil. Turn left onto Rue de la Procession to reach the car park of the Champcueil town hall on Rue Royale (S/E).

A somewhat monotonous hike with many sections through flat, bare fields at this time of year (especially between 1 and 5 and between 8 and 9) and poorly maintained woods (5 to 7). There are 2 km of tarmac between 8 and 9. The description could be more detailed, as the GR and PR markings are often inconspicuous and the GPS sometimes loses signal:
- Before 4, the path arrives at a three-way junction. Take the right-hand branch to join the GR11, which you take to the right. After a left-hand bend, follow the edge of the forest on your right, heading south.
- At 6: Take the Ballancourt path on the left and a few metres later turn right onto the GR11.
- Between 7 and 8, the path is sandy and winds through a pine forest. Walk along the right-hand side of large boulders.
- Before 8: the path leads to a small road. At the next crossroads, turn left towards the church (leaving the GR trail on your right), then (8) turn right into Grande Rue...
- After 12: steep descent (stone steps)..... Leave the GRP at the metal barriers and turn right.

Note for departure: if the town hall car park is full, there is another "special hikers" car park just after it.
