Chorsin waterfall and tall grass

A magnificent and fairly easy circuit. Shaded in its first section, it allows you to discover the beautiful Chorsin waterfall and then reaches the plateau of tall grasses before quickly returning to its starting point. The circuit is well signposted with information panels.

Description of the walk

After Sauvain, turn left towards La Roue and Le Mas. Park in the small car park at the entrance to the hamlet of La Rivière.

(S/E) Head right, then keep right on the small road that climbs to the three-way junction a few dozen metres further on. You will reach another fork.

(1) Stay on the wide, flat road and continue straight ahead until you reach the Chorsin glacial cirque.

(2) Continue along the path and negotiate the left-hand bend.

(3) Take the steeper path on the right and continue to the waterfall on the Ruisseau de Pierre Brune.

(4) Continue straight ahead, following the stream, until you reach an intersection near the confluence with the Goutte de l'Oule.

(5) Leave the path that joins the Jasseries Garnier on your left and stay on the left bank of the stream.

(6) Turn right and begin a fairly steep climb with hairpin bends. Enter the Colleigne nature reserve, leave the woods and reach the plateau.

(7) At the crossroads, go through the fence on the right and close it behind you because of the livestock. You will see Pierre-sur-Haute. Continueleft at the faint crossroads and go around a meadow on the left. Go straight ahead and enter the woods again.

(8) When you reach the edge, keep going in the same direction. Ignore a path on the left further on and continue to the next junction, located about 100 metres further on at an altitude of 1285 metres.

(9) Turn right and descend to the path you took on the way there.

(1) Continue straight ahead to return to the small car park where you started (S/E).

Notes

The first part of the route is shaded, even bucolic at the waterfall, but passes through open terrain between (8) and (9) on the plateau, with a slight breeze. You will cross two fences. Close them properly as there are herds of animals.

Worth a visit

Chorsin waterfall, shepherd's huts on the high pastures.

Taken on a gloomy day in February, it was snowing on the plateau; I was able to observe the tracks of a lone young wolf and a deer following the same trail, but certainly not at the same time.

A very beautiful hike in fine weather. The start is shaded, going straight ahead with a detour to the ferruginous spring, then climbing up to the plateau and following a well-marked path through the stubble. Everything is well signposted (signs at junctions).
