Park along the track accessible from Rue de Saint-Nicolas (D51).
(S/E) Near a Club Vosgien signpost, take the path marked with a Yellow Rectangle, which is the GR®532. It climbs alongside a stream then, after a 180° bend, veers away from it to make a wide left-hand curve to a Y-junction.
(1) Stay on the GR® to the right. As the slope becomes steeper, it joins a path marked with a Red Ring and Green Disc coming from the right.
(2) Keep to the left on the GR®. After about 150 m, you’ll reach a junction with a wide forest track near a picnic area.
(3) Cross the forest track and take the path furthest to the right, marked with a Green Disc, towards the Château. (The return route will be via thesecond path).
The slope becomes steeper as you approach the summit where the Old Castle stands. Go round it via the ditch on the right.
(4) Continue north-east as you leave the site, rejoining the path marked with a Green Disc (also known as the Chemin du Pierrot). Follow it to the junction with the forest road marked GR®532
(5) Follow the Yellow Rectangle markings to the right towards the Chapelle Sainte-Catherine; after about fifty metres, keep left and then left again to reach the chapel.
(6) Take the opportunity to visit the chapel and the spring, and perhaps enjoy a picnic nearby.
After your visit, retrace your steps to the junction of the GR® and the Chemin du Pierrot.
(5) Continue straight on along the GR® to reach the multi-way junction.
(3) Leave the GR® and turn right onto the forest track marked Red Ring. After about 400 m, it takes a sharp left-hand bend.
(7) Follow the Sainte-Catherine stream on the left bank. Further on, the track crosses the stream, then heads south and joins the D51 near a quarry.
(8) Continue straight on along the road (take care) until the next junction (IGN point 476). On your right, the Sainte-Catherine stream flows into the Saint-Nicolas river.
(9) Continue straight on, taking extra care, and head to the car park (S/E).
