From La Roche de Rame, follow the signs for Le Cougnet-Le Lauzet by car and follow the track for ~17km. Park at Plan de la Loubière or the hamlet of Le Lauzet (large car park with wooden tables).
(S/E) Cross the stream in the hamlet.
(1) Turn left onto the path marked in yellow, which is still passable by car. Head towards the ruins of Le Giet.
(2) Ignore the path on the right for the return journey (a place called Le Giet with chalets below), take the one on the left and follow it until you reach the small path branching off to the right.
(3) Begin a gentle descent. Then climb back up alongside the ravine where the Torrent de l'Ascension flows. This path winds its way up through woodland, then amongst rocks and meadows; the markings change to yellow dots on the hard ground. Head towards the Ausselard or Alpavin sheepfold.
(4) Leave it on your right and continue across the plateau until you reach the largest of the lakes, the Lac de l’Ascension.
(5). Continue along the flat path to the other lakes: the Escur lakes.
(6) At the last one, take the path on the left which climbs steeply up to the Col de Mouriare.
(7) Keep to your left again and climb up the ridge to reach the Pic du Haut Mouriare. Caution: this section is difficult!
(8) Descend via the same route back to the Col de Mouriare.
(7) Climb up the ridge opposite to reach the Collet du Peyron.
(9) Join the marked path. Take the very steep descent, away from the lakes, all the way down to rejoin the track at a place called Le Giet.
(2) Follow the route you took on the way up to return to the car park (S/E).
