Park at Place du Marché.
(S/E) Cross the car park towards the north to reach the Tourist Office. Take the Chemin du Pasquier opposite (GRP® red and yellow markings) then keep right on the Chemin de Derrière le Château to reach thefirst chapel, Notre-Dame d'Aubune.
(1) Take the opportunity to visit this beautifully restored 12th-century chapel and its medieval garden.
Leave the garden via the small paved slanting street that runs behind the chapel. At the signpost (altitude 102 m), head towards Duran.
On your left, you will see an old restored forge that was in operation until thefirst third of the 20th century and was used to make and repair tools for the nearby quarry.
Then climb 300 m up a fairly steep stony path.
(2) Turn left onto a path that runs alongside the vineyards and continue to follow theGRP® in a north-westerly direction.
(3) Leave theGRP® on the right via an unmarked path (towards La Briquette) and after 100 m, take a path on the left that climbs northwards.
(4) Continue along the path after the footbridge to join a wider path that will take you to aPR® marked in yellow.
(5) Turn right, heading north.
(6) Take a few minutes to descend into the galleries of an old mine on the left of the path, then go back a few metres to take a path on your right which will take you back to the GRP®.
(7) Follow the GRP® north and continue to the right at the Plâtrières crossroads.
(8) Leave theGRP® by taking the path on the right. Then turn left and keep to the right on a forest track that leads to the Col d'Alsau.
(9) Take the steps that climb up the bend in the forest track and continue along a well-marked path (marked in blue) on the northern slope of Grand Montmirail. Ignore all the small paths that branch off on either side and descend the southern side of Grand Montmirail to join a small road (Chemin du Grand Montmirail).
(10) Turn right and continue straight ahead for about 1.5 km.
(11) Take the road on the left towards the Durban wine estate, then leave the access road to the estate on your right.
(12) Follow the signs for Beaume-de-Venise and continue on the wide track that goes around two bends.
(13) Continue right until you reach the Sainte-Hilaire Chapel*.
(14) Take the time to visit this 6th-century chapel, which has just been restored * under the auspices of a local association, its gardens and its viewpoint. Then retrace your steps.
(13) Turn right, go around the gate on the left and follow the fence to reach a path on the right. After turning right at the hairpin bend, continue downhill until you reach a track.
Follow it to the left for about 50 metres, then leave it on the right and take a path that leads to Chemin des Gonnets and the first houses of Beaumes-de-Venise.
(15) Continue straight ahead. After the left-hand bend, at the corner of a house, turn right onto the path that runs alongside a vineyard and leads to Cours Louis Pasteur. Turn right, then immediately left into Rue du Presbytère, which leads to the church.
(16) Cross the Place de l'Église diagonally to the left to reach the car park where you started (S/E).
