The Crêtes de Tarsimoure from Saint-Dizier-en-Diois, Drôme.

A magnificent hike with breathtaking 360° views of the southern Vercors, Devoluy, Ventoux, etc. from the ridges. There is a lot of elevation gain, one steep section with cables, and a few steep descents, but the route is very beautiful and varied with a sublime ridge.

Description of the walk

Establet is located on the D61 between Charce and Bellegarde-en-Diois. South of the village, turn east onto the D106 towards Saint-Dizier-en-Diois. After 1.5 km, at the end of the straight road, at the crossroads, you can park near the bins on the right, close to the altitude of 1059 m.

(S) Head 50m north to join the small road towards Col de la Caille (signposted).

(1) Turn right east-southeast. At the next crossroads (altitude 1095m), turn left (north) and continue along the wide path.

(2) Pass the houses on the left (Le Mas, 1153m), then the grave. Continue to a beautiful right-hand bend (altitude 1180m). There, facing you, the path climbs straight up the slope towards the north-east. A good, slightly steep climb brings you to Col de la Caille at 1299m.

(3) Continue straight ahead, heading east for about 250 metres, then a signpost on the right will show you the direction of the Crêtes de Tarsimoure.

(4) Take the path to the south-east, which climbs steeply, then a plastic-coated cable will help you continue along the ridge: it's tough going but you'll reach the summit fairly quickly. You'll come out of the climb at an altitude of 1484m.

(5) From there, follow the ridge. Yellow lines on the ground indicate the path to follow: be careful not to crush the flowers... You will soon find the marker at the summit at 1550m. Continue along the ridges, descending then climbing back up to the second summit (1502m). Descend again to a signpost marked "Crêtes de Tarsimoure" (1,425 m). Continue towards Ranc de l'Aigle on the marked path, leaving another path on the right and reaching an elevation of 1,300 m.

(6) The path swings to the north side of the ridge and descends towards the Col de Saint-Pierre (1092m). This descent is tricky, steep and slippery on leaves: walking sticks are recommended. When you reach the forest track, turn right, cross the pass to the south and continue along the track to the Col Layard (1077m).

(7) Turn right and follow the Brézès signpost. The path descends gently to the hamlet where, upon reaching the road, you turn right towards the west.

(8) Follow the new signpost indicating "Tarsimoure" on the right, heading south-west. Climb up the left bank of the Combe ravine on a pretty path through the pine trees.

(9) After about 1,200 metres, you have the choice of continuing straight ahead in the combe or turning left into the Combe Rioux (the choice shown on the route here). The two routes meet at the top.
After passing through a gate, which you should close behind you, you will arrive at Serre Martin or Marsin on the IGN map (marker).

(10) Turn right towards the north-east, then at the next marker, descend to the left to the hamlet of Les Bascoux where there is a spring.

(11) After the spring, turn right. Ignore the paths branching off to the left and right and rejoin the Col de la Caille on the path, which is gentle at first but then becomes steeper.

(3) Turn left and descend via the same path you took on the way up.

From Die, head towards Luc-en-Diois and turn right onto the D61 before the village, heading south.
From Nyons, take the D94 north-east, then turn left onto the D61 north-east at Remuzat.

Good walking shoes and walking sticks!
Camera for flowers, birds, vultures and other wildlife.
Bring water as the only water source is near the end of the hike (11).

Some sections are along the edge of cliffs, so avoid hiking in strong southerly winds!

A very beautiful hike in the Baronnies Regional Park, enjoyed under sunny skies and fairly clear weather.
The description of where to start the hike seems a little confusing to me. You have to park near the signpost marked "Les Granges, 1060 M", which is before the village and very close to the junction of the D 106 and D 561 departmental roads.
After the Col de la Caille (1299 m), there is a sustained, steep climb with a section secured by cables to reach the Crêtes de Tarsimoure.
The undergrowth was soggy, and having forgotten to bring my mid-cut boots, I quickly found myself with wet feet in my low-cut Columbias.
Magnificent views of the Vercors, the Dévoluy and the Drôme Pre-Alps. The descent was a little slippery and muddy, and again, there was a section with cables.
We stopped for lunch in the hamlet of Brezès, and the last part seemed straightforward: 8 km and 300 metres of elevation gain. So I thought to myself, we'll be back in Les Granges in two hours!
But then, an unexpected problem! I found myself blocked by a torrent with a fairly strong current and very cold water. I didn't want to cross and preferred to return to Brezès. And despite not having a map or a recorded GPS route, I headed towards Vaugelas, thinking that I would find the D106 departmental road. This was the case after 3 km, so I walked 4.5 km with an elevation gain of nearly 300 m, as I had fallen back to 825 m, before reaching the hamlet of Les Bascous and rejoining the marked trail. A second time at the Col de la Caille (the signpost indicating 1.3 km from Les Bascous seems wrong to me, it must be twice that!), and a quick return to Saint-Dizier-en-Dois. A storm was threatening, and I just got a light rain for 10 minutes before finding my car, which I had left at Les Granges.
In the end, 21 km, 1,040 metres of elevation gain, and 7 hours. Apart from a couple I met on the way down from the Crêtes, I didn't see any other hikers...

On the ridges, there is a herd with sheepdogs, but it is easy to get around them.
On the way back, at the right-hand bend before Le Mas, there were four Patou dogs, two of which were rather aggressive.
This was the only downside.
Magnificent views, steep sections very well maintained.

Superb hike in spring, lots of flowers (wild peonies), vultures, viewpoints. SUPERB.
A challenging route, best done in good weather, of course.

A very beautiful walk, especially as at this time of year in mid-June we can see peonies blooming on the ridges.
The climb is quite tough because it rained heavily the day before, but fortunately you can hold on to the box trees and climb with walking sticks.

Impressive view at the summit, the hike is superb from start to finish and very well marked. It is also possible to take shorter variations. I encountered a sheepdog guarding his flock in the hamlet of Les Bascoux, but no problem, he was very friendly.

Superb hike with a challenging uphill route, very enjoyable with safety features such as handrails for added reassurance. Exceptional views from the summit. A hike to be rated ++.
