Park in the car park at the town hall and church in Urepel.
(S/E) Head south-east on a small, quiet road and pass a water treatment plant. Ignore a road on the left and cross the hamlet of Gaineko Karrika. At the crossroads, continue straight ahead.
(1) At the next crossroads, in the hamlet of Erlanjoenea, turn left. Cross a stream, turn right immediately and pass a memorial stone. Continue uphill and ignore another road on your left.
(2) At a fork, take the road on the right and cross a stream. At the intersection that appears shortly after, turn right, taking a hairpin bend.
(3) At the end of the left turn, leave the road and turn left onto a path. Climb uphill, heading south-east. Ignore a path coming from the left, head south and reach a crossroads.
(4) Then turn left. Open a gate (remember to close it behind you) and cross a meadow. Climb gently south-east. Then make a hairpin bend to the right and, after about 350 m, another to the left.
(5) You will arrive at the start of the Harriondoko ridges. Continue climbing. You will arrive at an open area with beautiful views. Continue along the ridge, heading east-southeast (you may encounter horses roaming freely). At an elevation of 905 metres, ignore the paths that descend to the left and continue climbing east-northeast until you reach the Col d'Auzarai.
(6) Take the first path on the right and climb, roughly parallel to the road. You will arrive at Rocher d'Hortzorrotz (magnificent view when climbing the rock, be careful not to slip).
(7) Continue south-east on the path, which becomes very steep, poorly maintained and overgrown (with gorse in particular). You will arrive at the summit of Urtarai.
(8) Continue south on a path that has collapsed (technical section), then off the path. Turn left and follow a road to the Col de Burdincurutecheta, on the French-Spanish border.
(9) Continue straight ahead (east) on a small road (during the season, there are many Pottok ponies and sheep in this area). You will arrive at the Lindusko Lepoa crossroads.
(10) Turn right at an acute angle (west) and follow a wooden fence that marks the border. This will take you to the summit of Lindus (camping is possible on the French side but prohibited in Spain).
(11) Go through the fence via a staircase and head south. Follow a fence and, further on, head southwest.
(12) Continue along the fence, heading south-west, and ignore a path on the left. Go over a small pass (elevation 1114) and climb gently up to the Collado de los dos Puentes.
(13) Go through the fence via a staircase (ignore a path on the left that heads south) and descend the western slope, following the GR®12 markings.
(14) At the bottom, continue west and climb into a wood, still following the GR®12. The path soon turns north-west. Go around the small peak of Xaxperro on the right and walk west until you reach a crossroads.
(15) Continue straight ahead (north-west) along a fence. Pass at the foot of small peaks on your left.
(16) When the path turns left, continue straight ahead, heading north, and begin the descent (no signposts) to the border.
(17) At the intersection, go straight ahead, then turn left and right. Descend on the French side, make a hairpin turn to the left, and you will come to a T-junction.
(18) Turn right and follow a small road heading north. Ignore a turn-off on the right and pass a ravine. Then turn left, then right in a hairpin bend. Pass the place called Mandabidea and continue on the road.
(19) After a sharp right turn, take a path on the left. Head northwest.
(20) Come out at the bend in a small road and follow it to the left. Keep right at the intersections that appear immediately. Cross a river and return to the crossroads you took at the start of the hike.
(1) Turn left and follow the same route you took on the way there to return to the starting point (S/E).
