A steep climb right from the start, along a small road, then we take the HRP and the GRT5.

Description of the walk

Park in the centre of the village of Les Aldudes in the car park opposite the church or behind the fronton.

(S/E) Turn left at the church and follow the small road. You’ll reach the junction with the Arguibel sign. Turn right and follow the yellow markings.
Walk along the edge of a wood, then cross a stretch of meadows to reach the edge of another wood.

(1) Enter the woods and continue the climb to reach the Berdaritz border pass.

(2) Then take the GRT5, marked in red and white, to the right. Continue the ascent, passing beneath the summit of Urrixka. Then turn left into the forest to reach the Pago Zelhay border pass.

(3) Continue along the GRT5 straight ahead to enter Spain. Make a wide right-hand circular loop to return to a small rocky pass on the ridge. Continue left to reach the summit of Abraku.

(4) Retrace your steps along the route you took on the way out to return to the car park in the village of Les Aldudes (S/E).

A lovely walk! Thanks for recommending it – the route was very easy to follow right to the summit. There weren’t many walkers out, despite the glorious weather. I can confirm that the start is quite a tough climb when you’re not warmed up. The scenery at the top of Abraku is stunning.
Best regards.

Hello.
I’m delighted to have completed this new hike.
The first part of the route is the same as for the Zarkindegi circular route. A challenging climb up the road.
The walk through the beech forest is most pleasant.
Once you reach the pass (point 2), instead of turning left, this route heads right and climbs gently up to point 3. The gradient steepens and the summit is well worth the effort. Magnificent views of Hautza to the left and Adi and the Spanish peaks to the right.
If you’re looking for a beautiful, secluded hike where you won’t meet a soul, this is the one for you.
