Cross Passenans and park at the picnic area on the D43 at the crossroads of two paths on either side of the road. Picnic area is poorly maintained or not maintained at all.
(S/E) Take the path on the picnic area side towards Château de Frontenay through the forest. At the crossroads, continue to the left to join the GR® 59 trail called "Échappée Jurassienne".
(1) Continue straight ahead, pass in front of the oratory and join the road leading to Frontenay Castle.
(2) About 100 m before the barrier, turn right onto Chemin de l'Église. Turn left to reach the château and enter the inner courtyard to admire the view of the Jura plain. Follow the signs to the small adjoining chapel.
(3) Return to the previous crossroads and go straight ahead. Then cross the road and continue straight ahead towards the village of Frontenay, following the GR® 59. Cross the village and, after the last houses, at a group of trees, turn right. You will arrive at the signposts.
(4) Leave the GR® 59 and turn right towards Passenant. Cross the fields and meadows to reach the hazelnut grove of Château de la Sauge. Walk along the hazelnut grove, then cross the Petit Bois and finally take the avenue lined with American walnut trees to reach the rear of Château de la Sauge.
(5) Admire the equestrian statue, the ponds and the wash houses. Then rejoin the road via the path crossing the meadow and running alongside the ponds. Retrace your steps along the road to the main entrance to see the three rearing horses adorning the entrance porch.
(6) Turn back to the previous crossroads and continue straight on towards Passenant until you reach another crossroads. Turn right and then immediately left. Once you reach the wash house, turn right onto Rue du Leat, which leads to Grande Rue. Make a quick first turn left then right onto Rue de la Rampe, then turn right again onto Route du Belvédère.
(7) About 50 metres further on, turn right to reach the plateau. From here, you will have a panoramic view of the Jura plain and discover a modern, energy-efficient wooden building.
(8) Along the way, pass an oratory and a remarkable oak tree, then continue to the D43, which you will cross to take the path opposite towards Les Bordes. Enter Bois Touiller, a Douglas fir forest owned by the municipality of Miéry, which can make the paths muddy at certain times of the year.
Stay on the GR® 59 Échappée Jurassienne until you reach the signposts indicating the direction of Château de Frontenay. Turn right and head for the Oratoire de la Vierge.
(9) Follow the second path on the right, diagonally, to continue towards Château de Frontenay and reach the car park (S/E).
