Red and white GR®59 markings and specific signs bearing the symbol "J"
(S) From your campsite, head towards the centre of the village of Blois-Sur-Seille. You will arrive at a pretty fountain and the Téléphérique à Lait cable car.
(1) At the signpost, follow the direction of Abbaye de Baume. Cross the bridge over the Seille and continue along the Curtil Borgne road, which continues as a grassy path. Begin a long climb up the Les Essarts hill to reach the Route de la Marre. Continue to the right and enter the hamlet of Chaumois Boivin. Continue until you reach the signpost for Chaumois Boivin.
(2) Continue straight ahead (south-west) towards Abbaye de Baume. At the fork, keep left to leave the hamlet before reaching another fork.
(3) Turn left (south) to cross the Combe du Setier meadows before entering the Bois Chaumois de Neuvy. At the junction with a cross road, turn right to reach the signpost for Chaumois de Neuvy.
(4) Keep left towards Abbaye de Baume and continue to La Saugiat. Pass a livestock farm before arriving at a cross.
(5) Turn right to cross the meadows and go around the edge of the Juisse woods on the right. Continue until you reach the signpost for "Sur Juisse".
(6) Turn right (west) onto Chemin des Cloisiaux and, ignoring the side roads, continue to the water treatment plant.
(7) Turn right at the intersection after the station, pass a relay antenna and continue on Route du Mille to enter the village of Grange-sur-Baume. Keep heading south to cross the village, passing a cross before arriving on the D210. Continue in the same direction, crossing the village, and continue to the fountain on the Place de l'Église Saint Antoine. (Toilets, drinking water and supplies available on the square).
(8) At the signpost in front of the church, follow the signs for Abbaye de Baume. Walk past the church on your right, cross a picnic area before going down a concrete path, then down some steps to the Belvédère de Grange sur Baume, which offers a superb view of the Reculée and the picturesque village of Baume-les-Messieurs.
(9) After climbing the steps, continue to the right and begin a steep descent to the D70.
(10) Cross it carefully and continue straight ahead on the path that rejoins the departmental road. Carefully turn left and then right on the departmental road and continue down the wide stony path until you reach Rue du Mont du Chat in the village of Baume-les-Messieurs. Go down to the cross.
(11) Turn left onto Chemin du Calvaire, then left again onto the D70. Pass the town hall, then the fountain, and follow the signs for Abbaye de Baume on the right, passing the abbey before arriving at the Pont de l'Abbaye.
(12) After the bridge, turn left towards the caves on the D70E1. At the signpost "Les Échelles de Sernu", stay on the road towards the Baume caves. Continue until you reach the signpost "Chapelle St Roch".
(13) Turn right towards the Grottes de Baume, pass the Chapelle Saint-Roch, cross the Le Dard river, then follow it along a pretty path dotted with small waterfalls. At the end of the path, when you arrive in front of a house, turn left to cross the Dard, then follow the path on your right to arrive in front of one of the most beautiful waterfalls in France: the Cascade des Tufs.
(14) After admiring the waterfall, retrace your steps to cross the Dard and take the steps on the left, which will take you over the waterfall via a footbridge. Go down the path that leads to the ticket office for the caves. Turn right to arrive at the entrance to the Baume Caves.
(15) Return to the ticket office and, at the signpost, turn right towards Échelles de Crançot/Belvédère des Roches de Baume. Please note: there is a 200-metre drop between the Dard, the small river flowing at the bottom of the valley, and the Roches viewpoint. The path called Les Échelles de Crançot is, at least in its final section, a series of limestone steps that can be slippery in wet weather. After the last step, follow the path that leads to a viewpoint. Continue south, then turn right onto Rue du Belvédère and continue to the Belvédère des Roches de Baume.
(16) From the viewpoint, continue along the small road to the right of the D70E2, following the signs for Sernu. Stay on this road, which crosses a wood, heading north-west, until you reach a pasture area. Continue until you see the signpost for "Champ du Poirier".
