Les Champs du Cormier

A lovely walk through a series of hamlets, with beautiful sections through the woodland of Champ Vachery and Les Chaumes Brunes, all situated south-east of Charny.

Description of the walk

The route starts at the Bi 1 car park.

(S/E) Head towards the small Rue Paul Bert and head due east, leaving Rue de Gambetta on your left. First turn right then left, and take Rue Pasteur until you reach Rue Pasteur. Cross it and turn right until you reach the next junction.

(1) Carry on straight ahead until you reach the T-junction with Rue des Cochards. Turn left, ignoring the road on the right immediately afterwards. Carry on straight ahead and, just after crossing the railway line, take thefirst path on the right.

(2) Turn right, keeping the railway line on your right. At the very end, continue along the path to the left and then head into the woodland until you reach thefirst houses. Carry on straight ahead until you reach the road.

(3) Turn right. At the Fork in the road, ignore the path on the right which goes downhill and the road on the left towards Les Girards. Carry on straight ahead to the ford. Take the footbridge on the left and continue to the road. Cross carefully and head to the right until you reach the next road on the left.

(4) Turn left, following the road as it climbs, and once the road bends to the right, take the path on the left, heading into the woodland. Continue to the next path on the left. Take the path on the left until you reach the next path on the right.

(5) Turn right and join a road. Turn left and carry on to the junction. Cross with care and head straight ahead towards Les Bonnins.

(6) Turn into the first street on the right as you pass through the hamlet of Les Bonnins, ignoring the small street on the right a little further on, as well as the paths on the left and right.
Carry on straight ahead and enter the woodland. A little further on, ignore the path on the right. Carry on straight ahead, keeping the edge of the woodland on your left, until you reach a road.

(7) Turn left, passing through the hamlet of Les Creusets, until you reach the next road on the right. Turn right at Les Mailleux to cross the hamlet of Champ Corgeon. Follow the road, ignoring the one on the right a little further on, and continue until you reach the next path on the left.

(8) Leave the road heading off to the right and take the track on the left, ignoring the one on the left a little further on. Follow the track until you reach a road. Turn right until you reach another road.

(9) Turn left for a few metres until you reach the house on your left. From there, follow the track until you reach the road at a place called Les Cochadrs. Cross the road and turn right, ignoring the track on the left immediately afterwards, and continue to the crossroads (elevation 182).
First turn right then left, crossing the D145 with care, and carry on until you reach a side track.

(10) Turn left, ignoring the path on the right immediately afterwards, and carry on to the next path on the left.

(11) Turn left, ignoring the path opposite (not shown on the IGN map), and carry on to the road. Cross with care and keep to the right for about thirty metres, then leave the road to take the path on the left which descends alongside the cemetery on your right. Immediately afterwards, ignore two paths on the left. Cross the railway line and continue to the junction with Rue Pasteur.

(1) First turn right then left, and take Ruelle Pasteur; turn right onto Rue Gambetta, then immediately left into Rue Paul Bert to return to the starting point (S/E).
