Description of the walk

At Hameau des Besses (S). Take the D152 E2 towards Saint-Maurice and at the standing rock, follow theGR®7on the right, which descends into a scree slope. After 500 metres, it crosses a perpendicular road, but continue straight on until you reach the D152 E2. Follow the road for 1.5 kilometres to reach a chapel.

(1) Before the cross, turn right onto theGR®74, which is poorly marked at this point. Follow it for 500 metres and you will come to the D25. Turn right onto it and continue for 100 metres before turning left onto a path lined with hedges.

(2) Take this path, which then winds between the hills. It is relatively good and crosses oak woods before descending to the D130.

(3) Turn right towards the hamlets. Pass Mas de Gay and its signposts on your right and continue towards Le Coulet.

(4) Cross the hamlet and follow the marked track, which climbs gently into the wooded hills. Join the junction with the GRP®.

(5) Continue straight ahead at the junction, heading south-west, and begin the descent. Be careful, as some sections are quite steep and the stones are unstable.
Finally, join the D122 at the Mas Aubert lodge, opposite Lavagne.

(6) Take theGR® trail and avoid the tarmac section by turning right before the road. The route follows the road to the car park at Le Moulis (drinking trough and menhir cross). Continue on the D122 and after 100 metres, turn right onto the path that leads into a pine forest.
After one kilometre, you will reach a forest track and after another kilometre, you will face the final winding climb. Leave the track and take the well-paved path and climb up to Cap du Ginestet.

(7) Begin the descent. A series of hairpin bends and hillside paths lead down to Combe des Frères.
Leave the Notre-Dame de Belle Grâce hermitage on your left.

(8) Continue the descent for nearly three kilometres before reaching the cliff overlooking Saint-Guilhem near the castle ruins.
Take the hairpin bends to the fortified gate and reach the first houses. Cross the small bridge over the Verdus and return to the car park (E).

Notes

Please note that during the winter, water points are closed to prevent them from freezing.

There are not many shelters along the route. It is not easy to find shelter in case of rain: given the mountain range's attraction for low clouds rising from the sea (sea mist), it is important to bring effective rain gear: waterproof over-backpacks, jackets and trousers, ponchos, etc.

The multi-stage hikes I offer are done independently and in complete autonomy.
So you are free to choose the stopover lodges and meals that are offered along the route, or not, if you want to remain independent.
In Les Besses, there are guest rooms and table d'hôte meals available. A quick search online will confirm this.
In La Vacquerie, there is also a CAF lodge.
