The tour of the Regrimay valley in Lentiol

A short, picturesque walk without any major difficulty, but only to be attempted in dry weather (there is a ford which can be tricky).

Description of the walk

(S/E) Leave the town hall car park heading north towards the chapel. Take the stony path that climbs just beyond. It’s a steep climb.

(1) You come to a small road (signposted “Le Château”) and turn left.

(2) You come to a small road (signposted “Les Feytaux”). Take the stony path opposite. Continue along the ridge path, ignoring any paths branching off to the right or left.

(3) You’ll reach the “Le Cachet” sign. Carry straight on (unless there’s flooding or ice. See Practical Information).

(4) When you reach the “Fond Mourand” sign, head down to the left. Be careful, the slope is steep (there are loose stones and gravel making it tricky...).

(5) You’ll reach a ford. A sign warns of the danger of crossing during high water or freezing conditions. If this is the case, don’t hesitate to turn back and follow the alternative route detailed in the Practical Information.
Otherwise, cross the ford. You’ll reach a small tarmac road (sign for “Vallée du Regrimay”). Turn right.

(6) Very soon, turn left (signposted “Coin Michel – 355m”). You begin the climb up the hill.
The road makes a hairpin bend around a beautiful adobe barn. You’ll reach a fork; take the right-hand path (yellow markings).

(7) You are at the top of the hill (sign for “Terres Blanches”). If you look to your right, you will see a huge wind turbine about 30 metres away.
Head left (north-east). Follow the ridge path. When you reach the edge of a copse, you’ll come to a junction. Ignore the path leading off to the left, as well as the grassy path to the right, and take the central path.
You come to a T-junction, facing a wood. Take the left-hand path. Note the signs along the edge of the wood prohibiting entry. This is the firing range of the Chambaran military camp. Needless to say, it is best to comply...

(8) You pass the sign for “Le Plateau – 455m”. Continue straight ahead and take the first path on the right (you’ll see a white marker with the number “92” circled in red). You are still on the edge of the Chambaran camp.

(9) When you reach a small road (sign for “Combe Longe”), turn left, then very quickly take a grassy path on the right. This leads back to the small road that takes you to your starting point (S/E).

Notes

The route starts from the car park at Lentiol Town Hall, a small village south of Beaurepaire, in the Isère department.

Warning! Halfway through the walk, there is a ford which, during high water, can be very tricky to cross. Before setting off from Lentiol, check the water level of the Regrimay stream. In summer, it is dry. If the water level is high, you should take a detour at the landmark (3). Instead of going straight on, head down into the valley on the left. When you reach the small tarmac road, turn right until you come to the sign for “Coin Michel”. Then turn left towards Les Terres Blanches.

The route is classified as ‘Moderate’ due to a steep, stony descent.

Worth a visit

The Chapel of Lentiol.
The pretty Regrimay valley.
Some views of the Pilat and Vercors mountains.

Hello,
A lovely walk, though I’d like to make a small criticism regarding the slightly unclear directions between stages 1 and 2, and then between 7 and 8.

But with the map, you can find your way.

It’s always good to get a bit lost and discover a lot.

Thank you
