The Untxin loop in Ciboure

It is a short, family-friendly walk, with no difficulty at all. The Untxin is a small river that flows into the bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Ciboure.
With a bit of luck, you may spot fish and birds in the mudflats (ducks, seagulls, snipes, egrets, etc.)

(2) Continue past a car park and arrive at the bridge over the Utxin (S/E).

Notes

It is a circular route, so it is possible to walk it in the opposite direction.
The route is very easy: just keep going straight along the riverbank.

Worth a visit

Things to see: once you’ve crossed the footbridge, you can continue straight on for a few metres to visit the Paries workshop (well known for its Basque cakes and chocolates).
Similarly, on arrival, you can cross the road and go straight on to see the 50-tonne concrete blocks that are submerged every year to reinforce the dykes... then go and see (from the outside) Fort de Socoa (a17th-centuryfort redesigned by Vauban and listed as a historic site).

A lovely little stroll along the banks of the Untxin. The light was beautiful as we made our way through this new neighbourhood in Ciboure/Urrugne. It wasn’t very busy that day. Once you reach the second bridge—the one where you cross the Untxin—you can carry on to Pariès to treat yourself to a Basque cake or some kanougas, the perfect pick-me-up for the walk back 😋 🤭.
