The route starts at the Larraldenia marina in Ciboure, Quai Maurice Ravel, almost at the foot of the Ciboure Lighthouse.
(S/E) Walk along the harbour, past Maurice Ravel’s house (the only house not built in the Basque style), then past the Saint-Jean-de-Luz lighthouse, which, when aligned with the Ciboure lighthouse, helps guide boats into the bay.
Pass the small Ciboure beach, then Notre Dame de Muskoa (a monument erected in 1948 and dedicated to seafarers).
(1) Walk along Socoa beach.
(2) Cross the River Untxin via a wooden footbridge. Stop for a moment to look at the large concrete blocks submerged in the sea to protect the sea defences.
Take the path on the right which runs alongside the river towards its mouth, then cross the area where the boats are moored.
(3) Continue along the path opposite, which runs alongside the houses, Avenue du Commandant Passicot.
(4) Enter Fort de Socoa and make your way to the viewing platform, where you can admire the sea defences and the cliffs overlooking the sea.
(5) You can take a detour to the end of the sea wall on the right to see the tide gauge, an instrument for measuring vertical sea movements.
Then head back to the viewing platform.
(6) Turn round and follow the same route back to Ciboure marina (S/E).
