Departure from the Maison du Salève car park.
(S/E) From the car park, turn left towards Pomier. Follow the road to the junction leading to the Chartreuse de Pomier. Continue along the road to the Pomier car park and follow the tarmac path to the Chartreuse. You can go through the porch or, as we did, go to the visitors' entrance, walk down to the building and take the path on the right.
(1) Continue along the path through the magnificent undergrowth and discover the flower beds (depending on the season), wild garlic and other flowers, and the sculptures that line the path, until you reach an intersection about 700 metres away.
We are now in the heart of the Bois des Fées, which owes its name to the ash trees (fagus) that populate the forest (a highly prized source of firewood in our region).
(2) From here, there are no more tracks. Take the path on the right to reach a clearing, then continue straight ahead along a forest path and towpath. It is essential to stay on this path, which climbs for a considerable distance before descending gently southwards to a small chalet where you can take a break if you wish. Continue along the path to reach the visitor car park and Rocher à Roger.
(3) Turn right and descend to theGR®65junction. Turn left and continue towards the Maison du Salève.
(4) When you reach a sign suggesting you continue along the path or turn right towards the Maison du Salève, continue for about 15 minutes.
(5) After enjoying the scenery, retrace your steps.
(4) Take the path on the left. You will discover a charming little trail that crosses the stream in several places, where signs invite you to learn about the local culture while piquing your curiosity.
At the end of this path, either turn left and visit the Maison du Salève, which is open to visitors (prices on the website), and admire the outdoor grounds, or turn right to return to the cars (S/E).
