Car park (outside) at the Saint-Étienne-les-Remiremont Mobile Gendarmerie.
(S/E) Take the paved road uphill, then turn left onto Chemin de Miraumont and continue to the forest entrance. Turn right onto the trail marked with a red triangle. Further on, if you want to see the waterfall in its entirety, take a small trail on the right, cross a wooden bridge and 100 m further on, you will find a photo opportunity.
Go back and take the path that climbs steeply towards a barrier.
(1) Miraumont waterfall. Continue along this small path, cross a small stone bridge and you will reach the car park of the Domaine de Saint-Romary.
Leave the estate and turn left onto the paved road, following a small pond. Further on, turn right onto the Dieterlin trail (red triangle) and follow it for 1.5 km until you reach a wide path and continue towards the Carrefour de l'Épinette.
(2) Take the path that climbs to the right (Yellow Ring, Red Ring) towards Le Saint-Mont (one hour). The path gives way to a trail that reaches the highest point of the route (725 m).
Cross a small stream to reach the Croix de Saint-Arnould (see below) and a first rocky viewpoint. Continue (Red Ring, Blue Easel and Yellow Diamond) along a small rocky escarpment and 100 m further on you will reach a wide panorama.
(3) Views of Remiremont. 450 m further on, you will come to a cairn, then after a steep descent, you will reach a huge cairn.
(4) On the left, a Green Triangle trail offers a round trip (600 m in total) to: La Stèle du Pilote. Otherwise, begin the descent to the right called Sentier des Moines.
(5) Pont des Fées (Fairy Bridge) (west side). Large boulders block the way. Continue 200 m east on the wide path. At the small crossroads, return via a small path towards the Pont des Fées and admire its east side. Further on, take the wide path that branches off sharply to the left. After a steep climb and a flat section, you will reach the Carrefour du Saint-Mont.
(6) Climb up to the right and pass a stele erected in Saint-Romary to reach a meadow.
(7) Saint-Mont. The view of Remiremont and the Moselotte and Moselle valleys is exceptional.
Approach the house (the roof has just been rebuilt). Pass under the stone arch. Go down the steps on the left and arrive in front of the ruins of two chapels (Sainte-Claire and Sainte-Marguerite). Follow the yellow diamond sign on the left and return to the Carrefour du Saint-Mont.
(6) Go down to the right until you reach a metal barrier and 50 m further down, turn left onto the Yellow Diamond and go down to a crossroads. Leave the path to Saint-Étienne (direct) on your right and continue to the left.
(8) La Chapelle du Vieux Saint-Amé. Turn your back to the chapel and take the path slightly to the right that passes in front of the old cemetery. At the crossroads, turn right and then 50 m further on, turn right again towards Haute Borne (blue sign with yellow diamond). The path climbs steeply to a path lined with rocks. Leave the path that climbs up to Saint-Mont and turn left (you have just climbed the last difficult section of the route). Further on, on the left, there is a lovely south-facing view of Dommartin-les-Remiremont. Don't miss the small path that branches off to the left towards La Haute Borne.
(9) Return to the wide path you left briefly and at the next crossroads, descend to the left along the path that leads to a hairpin bend in a tarmac road. All you have to do now is descend to the mobile police station car park (S/E).
