Head to La Batarelle, at the terminus of bus line 37.
(S/E) Walk up Rue du Capelan and climb the stone steps to reach the hills. Take the path opposite, which runs alongside the Vallon Dol reservoir. This path joins a tarmac road.
(1) When the road begins to descend, turn right onto a path that climbs uphill. Head towards a large concrete marker that is clearly visible on the left. Pass this marker, turn left and you will arrive at the tarmac road of Vallon Dol. Cross the road, pass the barrier and join a large track (large rock and bench). Turn left. You will arrive at fire hydrant no. 401.
(2) Turn onto the track on the right. You will come to a crossroads. Turn left and continue along the path until you reach a large open area where the DFCI tracks and tarmac roads intersect.
(3) Go through a barrier, then turn right to go through asecond barrier a few metres further up, heading west. Descend slightly, Marseille and the Vallon Dol basin stand out in the background. Further on, you will see an abandoned farmhouse.
(4) Turn left at the first crossroads to reach the tarmac road.
(5) Then turn right and stay on the left. Continue along the path that runs alongside this road and then moves away from it to join a wide DFCI track. Follow it to arrive on the right-hand side of the farmhouse.
(6) Turn right onto the track that leads into the forest. Keep left, cross the forest to make a circular route that arrives at the edge of the hill with beautiful views of the northern districts of Marseille. Turn left at thefirst intersection to arrive on the other side of the bastide with a magnificent olive grove. Then join theGRP® 2013 Marseille-Provence crossroads.
(7) Do not take this path, but turn left at thefirst intersection, then right through the trees. Follow the path, then turn left at thesecond intersection, heading east-southeast towards the Bassin du Vallon Dol. Turn left, passing through the gorse and rosemary bushes. Keep to the right and walk along the basin. You will reach a DFCI track. Stay on this track, which runs alongside the basin and leads to a tarmac road.
(8) Turn right onto it. Go through a barrier. The road descends. At the bottom, turn right and go through another barrier. Keep left and return to the initial crossroads you passed on the way there.
(1) Retrace your steps along the route you took at the start and take Rue du Capelan to return to the No. 37 bus stop (A/D).
