Park in the La Poste car park along the River Véore.
(S/E) Opposite the post office, take the footbridge on the right which crosses the River Véore. Cross the Quai de la République and follow the pavement on the right towards the Town Hall.
Walk a few steps and turn left through the fortified gate. Follow Rue Gustave André, leaving Rue Vergier d’Orcival on your right, and continue to the junction with Rue Correcterie.
(1) Carry on straight ahead, ignoring Rue de la Pérollerie on your left, until you reach a small square (car park).
Turn left into Rue de la Bruyère and walk on to No. 9, the site of the former hospital.
Retrace your steps until just past the car park, then first turn right then left to enter Rue de l’Église. After No. 3, turn left onto the steps of the Montée du Barda.
You’ll come to an esplanade; turn left and, after a few steps, reach a viewpoint overlooking the village (orientation board) at the foot of the bell tower of Saint-Andéol Church. Go back down the steps to the esplanade, turn left and you’ll soon reach the steps leading up to Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church
(2) Turn left after the church, go up the stairs, then follow the Chemin du Cimetière, which climbs to the left. You’ll soon reach Neyrieu Castle and the underground passages.
Walk past the building and look out for a stone bench on your left. Turn left after the bench, then head up through the woods to a small clearing. Turn right onto one of the paths (they all lead to the same place) to reach a playground and fitness equipment area near a ruined tower.
Go round to the left of the tower to reach a viewpoint (Vierge). Continue along the path until you reach the cemetery. Walk along the edge of the cemetery to the end, leave the path on the left, then head down opposite into the hollow of a small valley.
Carry on to the right and follow the Montée des Garennes. At the water tower, the path becomes stony and offers lovely views of the Vercors. Carry on until you reach a tarmac road (Chemin de Montmartel).
(3) Turn right and head downhill until you reach the Route de Barcelonne (D188). Turn right towards the town centre. At the next junction (give way), turn left, still heading towards the town centre; on your left is the Place du Chaffal. Carry on to the next junction, where you’ll see the Temple opposite.
(4) Turn right into Rue du Chaffal and follow it to the end to find the Ancien Collège. Head back down to the Temple.
(4) Turn right into Rue des Remparts. After No. 33, turn right into the alleyway until you reach Rue de Villeneuve. Turn left until you reach No. 13, then turn right into another alleyway which leads through a covered passageway and ends at Rue du Mazet.
Turn left and you’ll find the Ursuline Convent at No. 3. Carry on straight ahead and, just before the passage under the three arches, look out for the Canal des Moulins on your left.
Turn right into Rue Correcterie and, shortly afterwards, at No. 5, you’ll find the Hôtel des Princes de Monaco. Continue to the end of the street.
(1) Turn left into Rue Gustave André until you reach the Fortified Gate. Return to the car park via the same route (S/E).
