Along the Marette towards the viewpoint of the ruined castle

Short, easy hike around Château Rompu. Walk in the cool air along the Marette, climb in the shade, enjoy beautiful views of the valley, and return via the top of the village. From the viewpoint, you can see Crussol, the Chapel of Sainte-Marguerite, the bell tower of Montélier, etc. with the naked eye. However, a pair of binoculars is a welcome addition.

Description of the walk

Leaving Châteaudouble towards Peyrus after Rivière la Marette, at a place called Le Séchoir, there is space to park a car.

GRP® Tour des Monts du Matin marked in yellow and red

(S/E) Take the path that heads east and runs alongside the Marette and continue until you reach the path that crosses the river. There is often a hut, a bridge or other temporary structures at this point.

(1) Cross the Marette. Climb up to the right, heading north-west towards the crossroads at the ruins (difficult to see).

No signposts

(2) Go up to the left, heading south, and continue through the woods until you reach a pass.

(3) Turn right, heading northwest towards Château Rompu, which will appear in a few minutes.

(4) Go behind the castle ruins to the left to reach a viewpoint.

(5) Enjoy the view of the valley and return to the pass.

A nice, easy walk, although there is one section with a steep climb over rocks. Well shaded in summer. We did the walk after rain and there were lots of mosquitoes at the start.
