Description of the walk

Access to the Alpe du Grand Serre station via the D114 road, then eastwards via the D114E towards the Chalets de Poursollet.
(S/E) The start is on the D114E road from a car park in a right-hand bend just after passing a stele on the right in a left-hand bend.
Head south up the road to return to the stone.

(1) Leave the road and follow the very steep slope opposite into the valley surrounded by lush vegetation. Cross the forest, heading to the right. Exit the forest at an elevation of 1938 metres and cross a path coming from the right.

(2) Continue uphill. You will reach a treeless area of stubble and continue on the path heading east. At the foot of the cirque on the right is Lake Brouffier.

(3) Ignore the path leading right towards the lake, to which you will return later, and continue climbing north-east. Follow the path, marked with red markings, through a long stony area heading south-east and then due south. The ridge is opposite and the path leads to the almost red-coloured rocks. Reach the Pas de la Mine with its grassy area on the eastern side.

(4) Turn back along the same path and return to the junction at elevation 2143.

(3) Take the leftmost path towards the east, which descends towards Lac Brouffier.

(5) Reach the lake. The hut is nearby for shelter if necessary and if the weather is bad... Turn back to return to the previous crossroads.

(3) Descend westwards along the path you took to climb up, in the middle of the stubble.

(2) Ignore the path descending to the left and continue towards the forest. Descend the steep valley to return to the stele.

(1) Return to the car park via the road downhill opposite to find the starting point (S/E).

Like others, I find that from the Pas de la Mine, the route around the cirque via the ridge (which also offers incredible views) is the obvious choice for returning to the lake via a loop, rather than retracing your steps! The lake is quite busy, but not the ridges or the first section of the path (very steep) from Combe Oursière, as most people tend to take another path starting from the Bégoud path, a little further south on the Poursollet road.

Hike done in the suggested direction. A nice climb right from the start: it warms you up when the frost is already covering the edges of the paths. Very beautiful panoramas and a magnificent reward in the form of a well-deserved break by this pretty lake after crossing this mainly rocky landscape!

I find it even nicer, once you reach Pas de la Mine, to descend via the very wide ridge by turning right: there's no danger, it's just a little steep above the lake, and it offers a beautiful view to the south and takes you directly to Lake Brouffier by going around the cirque where the lake is located. It's no longer than turning around at Pas de la Mine!

A magnificent hike despite the wind. We started a little higher than the advertised starting point, and if you take the path, you can park 100 metres further on. After descending from Pas de la Mine, we continued on to Lac de la Courbe, which offers magnificent views of Lac Fourchu, Poursollet, the Emparis plateau, the Aiguilles d'Arve... a hike with plenty to take in!

Hello,
A very beautiful hike, well-marked trail, pleasant and safe in dry weather. Splendid views of numerous alpine formations. Many water sources, springs and lakes.
I highly recommend it.

A very beautiful hike. We continued past Pas de la Mine to go around the ridge and descend towards Lake Brouffier instead of retracing our steps to stop for a snack. Forest, stubble and red rocks along the way.
