Park in the free municipal car park above the church or anywhere else you choose in the village of Rutali, then head to the I Pantani spring (Pantane fountain) by following the signs (Trà aghje è Pagliaghji), which will be your starting point. Be careful not to go beyond the fountain, as there is nowhere to park.
You can also start from the area known as Funtana Nova (new fountain). There you will find signs pointing to the route and a "Carte d'Orientation" (orientation map) sign.
(S/E) Head for the crossroads just a few metres away and turn left to reach the beautiful I Pantani spring at the top of the village.
(1) Continue along the tarmac road until you reach a barrier.
(2) Go through the gate, remembering to close it behind you. You are now on the memory trail (Trà aghje è Pagliaghji). A few metres to your left, you will see the first (Pagliaghji) U Santu and a threshing floor (Aghja), followed by the second (Pianezzule). Continue until you reach a fork in the road.
(3) Turn right and head towards Funtana di Monique (Monique's fountain) and then (E Chjose). Continue towards (l'Anetta and its threshing floor Aghja). You will pass A Casetta di Ange, where you will find a table a few metres further on, perfect for a pleasant picnic. Take the opportunity to admire the sculptures of pastoral life carved into the trees (see photos).
(4) You are now at U Senapghju. Head towards Petra Ronda and its threshing floor (Aghja).
(5) Pass by the cemetery of the Moroccan Goumiers, head towards I Pughjali, and admire the view of the Biguglia pond. Continue towards Petra Martinella.
(6) After seeing Petra Martinella, take a detour to the cross.
(7) This cross was erected on the site of the helicopter crash (Dragon 2B) that occurred on 25 April 2009. In memory of the victims, a path called "U chjassu di a memoria" leads to the site.
Then take the same route back to return to the starting point (S/E).
