To get to the start by car, from the Col de Santo Stefano, gateway to the Nebbiu region, take the D62. At the first crossroads, 2.2 km away, turn right down towards Vallecalle. Park near the Town Hall Square where there is a threshing area. Use the parking spaces, taking care not to obstruct traffic.
Signposting: Addressing in villages and yellow paint, cairns or barrier tape on the nature trail.
Signage: Wooden signs.
Important: Close all gates and keep dogs on a leash in livestock areas.
(S/E) Take the Capanella road, go up 50 metres, pass the San Rocco Chapel and take the path on the right which runs parallel to and above the Saint-Paul road.
(1) At the junction with the D62, cross and climb opposite via Santa Calcitana Castagneto. At the first hairpin bend 200 m further on, leave the road on the right. Go through a gate and follow the path uphill for 1 km. You will reach a road (D5).
(2) Turn right and arrive at a DFCI cistern. Via Tintinaghjoli, walk alongside the Church of San Michele de Murato and arrive at the fountain on the right-hand side of the road.
(3) Take the A Stucaccia climb opposite. From this point, follow the signs for San Cesario. Pass the cemetery and you will find the start of a path on the right about 50 metres further on.
(4) Take the path that branches off to the right, heading south.
(5) At the crossroads, climb up to the right via Chjassu E Vergherete. Continue towards San Cesaro (wooden sign).
(6) At the end of the tarmac road, take the path on the left. After 100 metres, at the crossroads, follow the track on the right for 150 metres until you reach a three-way junction.
(7) Leave the track and turn left. Go through the gate and close it behind you. Continue along the path overlooking the Nebbiu plain and the gulf until you reach the Chapel of San Cesario, 2 km away.
(8) Leave the chapel esplanade on the right and walk about 100 metres along the track, heading west.
(9) Descend to the right via Chjassu di San Cesariu. At the bottom, walk alongside the Rapale cemetery and follow Stradda di u Castagnetu until you reach the crossroads with a drinking fountain on your left.
(10) At the sign "Entre Profane et Sacré" (Between Profane and Sacred), follow the direction of Pieve and descend Garattaccia. At the next crossroads, turn right and continue for 100 metres.
(11) Turn left and continue along Vallone until you reach the last house at the end of the road.
(12) Continue along Chjassu di San Martinu and pass the chapel of the same name located on private land. At the lowest point, climb the track heading north and reach the small chapel dedicated to Sant'Antone.
(13) Continue north on a track and then on the Santo Pietro Vecchio path for 1.3 km. Pass the Olmelli cross and reach the plain.
(14) To see the remains of the Santo Pietro Vecchio Chapel, turn left and take the communal path before retracing your steps (a 400 m round trip detour).
(14) Continue along the circular path, heading east. Follow the path for 200 metres to the gate under an olive tree. Go through it and descend to the left along the track that runs alongside a large field.
(15) At the lowest point, go through another gate on the left and walk along the banks of the Canal de Valdo for 200 m. Look for a ford on the right that allows you to cross the Ruisseau de Salinelle. Go through the large gate installed by a farmer (with revocable permission granted for hikers, so please be respectful of the area).
(16) On the other side of the stream, turn right and follow the track for 1 km.
(17) Cross the Lenze stream on the left via the ford. After 150 m, turn left again, crossing the Cicendolle stream, then continue along the track which climbs eastwards for 800 m.
(18) Pass a shepherd's shelter (pagliaghju) and take the path that climbs, generally following the crest of the ridge, heading east. Reach the ruins of the Chapel of San Giorgio and continue towards Vallecalle, which is visible.
(19) At the end of the climb, go through a gate and follow Ribe to the road. Turn right to go around the village of Vallecalle and then head to the Town Hall Square (S/E).
