Park in the car park at Place de la Gare in Ottrott.
No signposting
(S/E) Turn right onto Rue de la Gare. At the first junction, continue straight ahead, then keep right at the next Fork in the road. You’ll come to a roundabout.

(1) With the roundabout on your right, follow the path that starts opposite, slightly to the left of it. Head straight ahead before keeping left at the junction to pass close to an aerial. Then keep straight on at the three junctions to reach another Fork in the road at the edge of the forest. Continue straight on until you reach the road.
(2) Continue along the track starting on the other side and ignore a path joining from the left. At the next junction, stay on the track on the right and reach a crossroads with several branches.
(3) Take the first path on the left, which climbs through the holly bushes. Ignore a path leading down to the right and then turn left to reach a larger crossroads.
(4) Head right towards the two Ottrott Castles. Ignore a path coming from the left, leave the forest and again ignore a path on the left to reach a junction. Then turn left and continue straight on towards the castles. If access to them is open, a visit is enjoyable and recommended.
(5) Otherwise, keep left onto a flat path. Shortly afterwards, stay on the path that starts on the right with some steps. Cut across an abandoned track and reach a track.
(6) Turn right onto this track, then rejoin the path on the left. Shortly afterwards, at a bend in the mountain, head up to the left before very quickly staying on the path on the left. At the junction, continue to the right to reach a track.
(7) Turn right, then quickly left to make a sharp bend on the same side. Follow the path to reach the Elsberg, its shelter and its viewpoint over the Rhine plain.
(8) Continue along the path to the junction.

Turn left, then keep to the right and turn left again to reach another junction.

(9) Turn right and reach a viewpoint. After admiring the view, continue along the path. Keep to the left to reach a junction at the North Gate.

(10) Head down the path on the right, then ignore a track on the left. At the next Fork in the road, carry on straight ahead until you reach the junction.
(11) Keep to the right.

When you reach the fork in the road, carry on straight ahead, pass the first ruin of Hagelschloss Castle, then keep to the right and reach the second ruin, which is on the left and features an arch.
(12) Turn back and keep left at the junction.

Turn right at the next Fork in the road. The path then runs alongside the pagan wall. Cut across a steep track and reach the Koeberlé Gate.
(13) Stay along the pagan wall before continuing to the right.

(14) At the junction, head down to the right. Leave the track quickly and take a path to the right. Cross another track before keeping to the left, then to the right.
Sign for Dreistein Castle
Then head left towards the castle.
(15) Return to the junction by the stone wall via the same route.

(14) Head straight ahead, then take the third path on the right.

Very soon, keep left until you reach the Grotte de l’Etichon.
(16) Turn back, then keep to the right.

Carry on to the left three times to reach a viewpoint by a rock.
(17) Then turn your back on the viewpoint and head left, then right. At the track, turn right to reach the edge of the forest. Cross the open area to reach the Carrefour de la Grossmatt.
(18) Carry on straight ahead along the concrete path. Cross a track and continue to the right to reach Mont Sainte-Odile.

(19) Continue to the right and follow the road. Then take the path on the left.

Then turn right at the fork, then keep left straight away.

Soon after, keep to the right to follow the stone wall. Just past the bust of Professor Curt Mundel, you’ll reach the Rocher du Panorama.
(20) Continue along the path, ignoring the track on the right. After an easy climb, head downhill to reach a junction leading to the Ameisenberg.

(21) Head off to the left. Further on, turn right, then fork left again. Cut across a track straight ahead. Then keep to the right all the way to reach the Kapellenhausfelsen rock.
(22) Follow the path and cross the track. The path turns right and joins a wide track. Head right, then left, to reach the departmental road.
(23) Carry on to the left, cross the road carefully, and follow the path to the right. You will then reach another departmental road.
(24) Walk up this road on the left with the utmost caution: the road is narrow, busy and has poor visibility.

At the junction, take the path on the right. Shortly afterwards, ignore a crossroads.
Sign for the Chapelle Saint-Jacques
At the next fork in the road, turn right to reach the ruins of the Chapelle Saint-Jacques.
(25) Return to the junction.

Head to the right, then continue to a Y-junction. Go straight ahead and, at the second junction, turn right to reach the edge of the forest.

(26) Turn left towards the ruins of Niedermunster Abbey, then right towards Saint-Nicolas Chapel. Pass through the turnstiles and keep to the right to reach the chapel.
(27) Return to the edge of the forest.
(26) Head down the track opposite, then make your way to a car park. Cross the car park to the left and take the path at the far end.

Follow this path uphill. Ignore a path on the right, then head completely to the left before passing three inconspicuous junctions to reach the Chasseur junction. Turn right and head for a viewpoint overlooking the Saint-Nabord quarry.
(28) Continue down the slope and keep to the right. At the bottom, turn left, then right to climb a little and reach a Fork in the road with a gate. Continue along the track opposite and head for another junction.
No signposting
(29) Go straight on, ignoring a path on the left, and reach a wide bend.

(30) Turn right. Ignore a junction.

At the next junction, turn right towards the Oratoire Saint-Gorgon. Then return to the track.

Turn right, and do the same at the next junction to reach a cross. Then cut across the track, keeping straight ahead, to reach another cross.
(31) Turn right. As you re-enter the forest, keep left three times before heading down to the right towards Ottrott le Haut.

When you reach the junction, cross Rue du Mont Sainte-Odile and take the small path opposite to reach Rue des Châteaux.
No signposting
Head straight ahead, pass by the cemetery and reach Rue Principale.
(32) Head down this street to the left and, at the bend, turn right. At the end of the street, rejoin the path you took on the way there, following it to the right until you reach the car park (S/E).
