Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the end of Rue des Châteaux in Ottrott.

(S/E) Go up the road towards Ottrott.

(1) Turn right onto the path marked with a red rectangle crossed out in white (you can also take the path running parallel to this one). Continue straight ahead until you reach the three-way junction.

(2) Continue left on the path marked with a red rectangle crossed with white. Turn right at the hairpin bend about 300 m further on and reach the junction with a forest track at an oak tree.

(3) Turn left.

(4) Turn right to climb the path marked with a blue horse and go to the castles of Ratsamhausen and Lutzelbourg, which are currently being restored: they can be visited on Tuesdays and Saturdays. In the left-hand bend, you can access the viewpoint of the ruins of Koepfel Castle. Return to the fork.

(4) Continue the route to the right, pass the ruins of Koepfel Castle and arrive at a crossroads.

(5) Turn right, following the blue signposts. Ignore the path on the left, then turn right at the next one and continue for a few metres.

(6) Climb the path marked with a red cross on the left. After passing between two rocky outcrops, turn right onto the rocky platform of Hagelschloss Castle: beautiful viewpoint.

(7) Take the Chevalet Jaune trail on the left, heading towards Porte Nord. Keep left at the two intersections and you will come to a cross path.

(8) Cross this path and take the Sentier des Merveilles opposite, which passes below impressive rock formations, including the Rochers des Géants. Turn left onto the Chevalet Bleu marked trail and you will reach a three-way junction.

(9) Turn right onto the Triangle Jaune marked trail, heading towards Sentier des Pèlerins. Make a sharp right turn, ignore a path on the left and come out onto this trail.

(10) Turn right.

(11) Take the path on the left, find the Yellow Triangle markings and follow them towards Fontaine Lucie.

(12) Go down the path on the left towards the fountain. Cross the forest path and go down the path opposite towards Carrefour des Chasseurs.

(13) Go up the path on the right to the viewpoint over the Saint-Nabor quarries, then turn back and go straight down the path marked with a yellow disc. You will reach a crossroads.

(14) Go up the path on the right towards Saint-Gorgon. Please note: the owner does not allow access to the marked path, so you will have to follow the parallel path to rejoin the Yellow Disc markings further on, turning right at the hairpin bend.

(15) At the crossroads, take the path marked with a yellow cross towards Ottrott. Keep to the right at the three-way junction, cross a forest path and descend the path opposite.

(16) Turn left onto the path marked with a yellow ring. Cross the road, climb the stairs and walk along the property.

(17) Turn left onto Rue des Châteaux and take the path overlooking the road on the left.

(1) At the crossroads, continue straight ahead to the car park (S/E).

The trail was also well marked by the Vosges club.
The bus connection from Strasbourg was also more than adequate

We were in a group, most of us from Haut-Rhin, so we really enjoyed this pleasant and interesting route that took us to see the various castles, ruins, the Sentier des Merveilles trail, the St Lucie fountain and the St Nabor quarries.
As we did it on a Saturday, we were able to enjoy explanations at the two castles, which are really worth spending time at, and the volunteers there were very friendly.
We had a picnic on the rocky platform of Hagelschloss Castle, which was a very pleasant spot.
In short, it was a beautiful walk in magnificent weather, which didn't spoil anything! Well done to the creator of this route.
