Description of the walk

Departure from Trogues church, located along the D109, at the entrance to the village when coming from Pouzay. Park in the spacious car park at the foot of the church.

Red and white + blue markings

(S/E) With your back to the church, turn right onto the D109 towards Pouzay. After a few dozen metres, turn left onto Chemin du Ruisseau (small road). Shortly before a metal gate on the left-hand side, turn right onto a grassy path that climbs between the fields.

Red and white + yellow markings (in the form of bars or circles)

(1) At the top of the hill (marker post), continue straight ahead on theGR®48(ignore the blue markings on the left). Walk along a grove on your right, continue on a small tarmac road and walk along the wall of the Château de la Rolandière park on your right.

(2) At the entrance gate, continue straight ahead, still following the wall. The tarmac gives way to a path that climbs between the fields. At the end of the path, continue straight ahead on a small road. At the next crossroads, continue straight ahead towards La Biscotière. Ignore a road on the left and you will come to a fork.

Red and white markings

(3) Then turn right (ignore the yellow markings going left towards La Joumeraie). At the next intersection, continue straight ahead. Walk along the right-hand side of the Profond Fossé farm, after which the tarmac gives way to a farm track. Go downhill, cross a disused railway line and then a stream. Cross the D109 (take care) and continue straight ahead on a farm track.

Yellow markings (very rare)

(4) When the track turns left, leave theGR® and continue straight ahead on a grassy path that leads to the right bank of the Vienne. Turn right with the path and follow the river on your left. After about 1 km, walk along the fence of a campsite on your right and note the Château de Prézault on the opposite bank.

No markings
The IGN map indicates the existence of aPR® trail, but there are no markings (as of December 2017).

(5) At the corner of the fence, ignore the yellow sign inviting you to turn right towards Pouzay and continue straight ahead. There are two paths, both marked with a yellow cross: take the left one to stay as close as possible to the river. After about 200 metres, join the other path and follow it to the left. Follow the Vienne, still on your left but at a short distance.

(6) At the edge of a copse, turn right onto the path. Then turn immediately left (do not continue eastwards on a path not shown on the map). Head north on a grassy path with the church of Trogues in your sights. After about 750 metres, turn right onto the path and walk along a stream on your left (note the leaning chimney of an old factory opposite).

(7) Cross the stream where it turns right and go under the old railway bridge (note the Vienne flood markers at the end on the right). Continue along the path, ignore the dead end that extends it and, at the stop sign, turn left onto the D109. At the next stop sign, continue straight ahead along the cemetery and you will find the church on your left (S/E).

Apart from walking along quiet paths, I didn't find this route particularly interesting. There's nothing to see, even along the river there isn't much to look at, there are lots of trees and tall grass.

A very beautiful walk in winter, especially in the morning with the mist and beautiful sunshine trying to break through here and there.
What a pleasure to see and hear the birds singing. Very peaceful.

A walk in January under the winter sun. Quite pleasant overall.
Long straight stretches along the banks of the Vienne with quite a few wild birds (cormorants, egrets, gulls, various passerines, etc.). These long straight stretches across fields and along the banks of the Vienne mean that the walk perhaps lacks a few "surprises"; the landscape is fairly monotonous.
The section near the houses is nice, with beautiful local stone houses to discover.
An easy walk, often "open" for much of the route.

It is best to do this hike in the morning, as there is no shade until you reach the Vienne.

Thank you for this hiking route. Please note that due to flooding in the Vienne, part of the riverside path is currently under water.
