Along the River Moder from Kaltenhouse to Bischwiller

Start at the entrance to Kaltenhouse when approaching from Camp d’Oberhoffen on the D99. Car park by the village hall.

(S/E) From the car park, head back along the D99 towards Camp d’Oberhoffen until you reach the bridge over the Moder.
Take the cycle path on the right, running alongside the River Moder towards the south-east in the direction of Bischwiller. Marked with Blue Crosses. The cycle path joins Rue de l’Obermatt at a bridge over the River Moder. Cross the bridge on the right and continue to the next junction.

(1) Ignore the cycle path ahead (the return route) and turn left towards the riding centre. Carry on straight ahead all the way to Bischwiller. Go round the back of the Super U supermarket to come out at a bend in Rue de l’Église and the square.

(2) Carry on straight ahead and cross the Rothbaechel. Shortly afterwards, on the right, go up a flight of steps towards Rue du Château; note the few beautiful Alsatian houses. Turn left to rejoin Rue du Conseil. Follow this for about a hundred metres until you reach the junction of Route d’Oberhoffen and Rue des Pharmaciens.

(3) Turn right onto this street. At the corner, admire the Alsatian house which is home to the restaurant L’Ours.
At the end of Rue des Pharmaciens, turn right to reach the town hall and the Laub Museum. This iconic building in Bischwiller stands on the town hall square. The museum is well worth a visit.

(4) Continue along Rue du Général Rampont, Bischwiller’s main shopping street. At the end of this street, you’ll reach the Étang de la Jute and some industrial buildings. Turn right onto Rue de Haguenau, walking alongside the pond on your left, then cross the road and go through the small park to reach the cemetery.

(5) Walk alongside the cemetery fence (on your right) towards Rue de Haguenau, then turn right onto the path which continues alongside the cemetery (Rue du Florival) until you reach Rue de la Piscine and the Stade des Pins.
Turn left, then right in front of the entrance to the Stade des Pins.

(6) Follow Rue du Stade between the football pitch and the swimming pool on the other side of the road (one of the finest outdoor swimming pools in the region). Pass by the Lycée André Maurois and, when you reach Rue de l’Obermatt, turn right along this road and return to the junction you passed on the way out.

(1) Retrace your steps in the opposite direction, taking the same route as on the way there via the Pont de la Moder, then turn left onto the cycle path until you reach the next bridge at Kaltenhouse, and head back to the car park (S/E).

The Laub Museum in Bischwiller, dedicated to the town’s former textile industries. Admission is free on Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays from 2 pm to 6 pm.
