Description of the walk

Park at the Weitbruch Forest House.

(S/E) Enter the village via the D140 and turn right onto Rue des Pins, which continues as a path.

(1) Take the path on the right and continue through the fields
Cross the main road, continue straight ahead along the Chemin des cavaliers, plot 23, and you will reach a crossroads.

(2) At the crossroads, on your left, 600 m away, you will come to a Bronze Age burial mound.

(3) Retrace your steps.

(2) Once back, take the marked path on the left and continue to a pond.

(4) At the end of the pond, before the car park, turn right to stay on the path. Cross the road and follow the signposted footpath which turns right and leads to the water tower.

(5) After the water tower, turn right to stay on the path, then cross the road and continue straight ahead until you reach a cross-path.

(6) Continue to the left and join the D139.

(7) Cross this road one last time and take the path that runs alongside it.

(8) Walk to the end of the path to see the Roman milestone. Then continue along the track. At the end, when you reach the track suitable for vehicles, turn left, leaving the signposted path on your right, and return to the forest house car park (S/E).

A short walk taken on 10 May 2026. A very unpleasant surprise in the form of countless ticks and mosquitoes! This, unfortunately, rather spoiled the walk. But the area is beautiful, pleasant, well signposted and very quiet. Remember to protect yourself and any pets you have with you, if applicable.

A walk mainly through the forest, which must be very pleasant in summer. For the most part, the path follows markings I’m not familiar with – probably local ones – but they’re certainly very handy. The rest stop by the pond, halfway along the route, is ideally situated. Two minor corrections: the water tower is actually a pumping and chlorination station, and the burial mound is situated before the edge of the forest shown on the map. This does not detract from the charm of the walk.

A pleasant walk through the woods.
However, as for the Tumulus, nothing to be seen!!!
We preferred to carry on along the path northwards to pass through the dried-up marshes. This saved us a very pointless trek back the way we came in the sun and gave us a little adventure full of sting (nettles) to find a welcome shortcut eastwards (fishing pond).
